Hello guys,
I nearly chose everything for my new build but still no Ram and Motherboard ...
Intel i5-6500
EVGA GTX 970
Seasonic Platinum 660W
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
WD Green 2TB
Iiyama Prolite XB2483HSU
I am not planning on overclocking, i had my share in my youth and not interested anymore. Besides its so easy and boring these days ... with no marginal benefits so whatever. That normally leaves me with the choice of H170 chipset. But i am still considering Z170 for higher Ram frequencies if it might have some benefits in future. The rig will be used for graphics design and pre-print(Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign) and some gaming for relax.
I have looked so far on those MB:
Asus H170-Pro Gaming - I tend to like this one most. Although i won't be using all the gaming software, i like the build quality and features. I have Hyperx Cloud headset, so the amplifier is welcome too.
Gigabyte H170-Gaming 3
Gigabyte H170-D3H - that was my first choice when i started looking for MB, but i don't like that it is a few centimeters shorter ...
Gigabyte Z170-D3H
Gigabyte B170-HD3P - this is the budget option ...
I am starting with i5, but i plan in the next two years to go for i7 if i really need the extra performance, so i want the Mobo to be compatible with the next 1-2 generations of processors ...
Any advice? I really can't decide on this one ... and i must confirm until next Monday.
P.S: Sorry for the long post ...
What budget what country?
Also a 390 is generally a fair better option compared to the 970
Country - Bulgaria.
The budget for the mobo is max 130$ so the Asus one is the most expensive i can go with.
Ok, it will be 390 ... i thought 970 is more quiet that's why i chose it, but i guess it won't make much of a difference in my Define R4 ...
Well I'm not sure on your pricing then, if haswell is signifigantly cheaper get an i5 4460 + any old H87 board you'll probably save enough money to include a 480GB ssd
also that WD green drive is really only good for archival storage, not so much in a system where it's going to be on everyday

Otherwise the ASUS board is probably your best bet
Well, the prices here are a bit higher. The Asus board comes at 146$. I said 130 because that's the price in USA and most ppl look at pcpartpicker. The difference between 1150 and 1151 setup is 50$ or so ... not sure if it is worth it. Better go for the new generation i think. More future proof(as much as i hate that phrase).
I wouldn't call it future proof exactly, you get like a 5% IPC improvement and USB 3.1 so, ya not too big of a jump
I'd go for the added 240gbs on your SSD
I already bought the SSD, because i saw it on Black Friday and it was a pretty good deal ...
Well then go for skylake I suppose, the ASUS or Gigabyte H170-D3H should be fine
Ok, thank you for the advice!
Just to be sure ... H170 chipset will have support for Kaby Lake atleast, right? Because someone told me that only Z will be compatible ...
You should ask your self the question which cpu you "might" upgrade to in the future wenn needed?
And do concider Sli or Crossfire in the future?
If you might upgrade to a unlocked i7, and you want to go into overclocking.
Or you want the option for crossfire or sli in the future.
Then a Z170 would indeed be the best choice.
If non of those, you would basicly be fine with a H170 board aswell.
Edit: The new Skylake Xeon e3´s will probably not work in consumer mobo´s.
Thats a bummer.
I thought Intel closed that door with the new architecture? Aren't they only good at a different chipset?

Well ... it would have been nice indeed ...
Anyway, i went with the H170-Pro Gaming. I hope Asus will be top notch again, as my last board that worked flawesly for 8 years, before two of the ram slots gave up :)
