Help building a new pc

So I’m building a new PC for work and gaming secondary. I’m trying to make money stretch as much as possible. I’m just also concerned about stability. I’m looking to do a build around the 3950X. The system will be fully water-cooled. I already have graphics cards. Does the RAM look good? I’m not a fanboy of either Intel or AMD. I’m a heavy user of Lightroom, Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Should I go AMD or an Intel equivalent?

*Another concern and I don’t know how important this is. PCIe 4.0. It’s supported by AMD but not Intel.

3950x
Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 3600 (PC4-28800) C18
ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero X570

Little reason to go Intel at that level.

Go for it.

The ram kit you’ve listed isn’t on the boards QVL list.

The only 64 GB memory kits @ 3600 MHz are from G.skill with 4x16 GB sticks.
This kit is on the qvl:

But otherwise take a look on the qvl, so you’re sure you get a kit that’s gonna work with the rated speeds and timings

And as for PCI-E 4.0, unless you have a gen 4 nvme ssd or a Radeon RX 5X00 XT gpu, it doesn’t make a difference.

Thx for the replies. Doesn’t Ryzen work better with the fastest memory? Or is it timing?

Fast RAM is great … up to a certain point. Faster than 3600 usually doesn’t do anything and even 3200 is completely fine, especially when using 32GB dimms I would take a step back in terms of speed. And as said above, RTFQVL!

Both. 3600 MHz is a sweet spot for Ryzen 3000 speed wise. And the tighter the timings the better.
So 3600 MHz Cl 16 is a good choice.

3200 is also very good. You can get 3200 MHz cl 14, so tighter timings.
But there aren’t any 3200 MHz Cl 14 64 GB kits on the QVL. There are plenty of CL 16, but if you go down in speed, timings should follow suit IMO

Which would you say is more important? A balance between the two or a tighter timing? I will see what I can find with a lower timing while keeping it a high speed. Oh I double-checked the link previously, it’s (16-19-19-39). That seems pretty good

Ehh, i’m not sure. Gamers Nexus might have a video on it.

There aren’t any 64 GB 3200 MHz CL14 kits on the motherboards QVL, so personally I’d take the G.Skill 3600 MHz CL16 kit I linked, since it’s on the QVL

On Ryzen speed is more important than latency on RAM. You want the infinity fabric to run 1:1 with it and as fast as possible of course. 3600 should work on Ryzen 3000, personally I’d go 3200 just to not stress the chip too much. CL14 or 16 … doesn’t matter really. Maybe in some workloads but that would be very specific.
