recently i bought a sapphire 280x to use in my system, after trying to game once it basically turned off the monitors after 10 min. I thought running a silverstone 600W bronze (modular) PSU it would have been fine but now im worried a bit,
im running an i5 2500K clocked at 4.3ghz, three hard drives and an ODD. Oh and 6 case fans, but that shouldn't have to much of an effect. Might be that ive plugged everything on one 12v rail but not sure, kinda worried to try again so ive put my 7850 back in for now
any help would be great, especially if it doesnt require me to buy a new PSU
thanks in advance
Try again with the 280 but remove your oc on the cpu. You should be well under the margin of which your psu (albeit a quality unit) would be showing signs of being close to its limits unless you are in a very hot environment and it cant cool itself adequately.
Could very well be you have a faulty card - try in another system (mates rig etc) if you can. If it works fine you know its something else, like that of the psu. 600w, im guessing its the Strider essential model. Either way if has got a weak 12v rail hope that you're still in the warranty period so you can RMA it.
TL DR, Remove cpu oc, test again. Try gpu in another system. We'll go from there.
The psu should be fine. But its abit depending on which model you have. But still. it should be plenty.
I personaly think of a faulty gpu. if you have no problems at all with your 7850, then its most likely a faulty GPU. But offcourse there could also be a fault in the psu. The only way to discover this, is putting the gpu into a diffrent system. But if its shuts down your monitors and your system stays on, then its most likely the GPU.
I guess this called something like a black screen of death. ☺
after trying it out again with a few suggestions from a friend the cards working fine so far. although it doesnt seem to be preforming like a 280X in bf4 and borderlands im getting less than 50fps while in bioshock infinite im getting 120ish, any suggestions?
cheers
you could try a diffrent driver.
the new beta driver still have alot of issues. i personaly still on 13.12 driver, for my 7870ghz.
I did also see some instability and performance dips with the beta driver on my HD 7950
