So I am experiencing something odd and I have no idea how it is happening. I have a ASUS laptop that has no built in radio tuner and whenever I have my headphones plugged in I can hear a single radio station on my laptop. It's very fuzzy and it disappears when I touch my laptop. My headphones do not have a radio tuner either so this is really throwing me for a loop. I've had the laptop for months and I've never noticed this until just the other day. The laptop has an aluminum shell so it may be able to amplify the signal but what confuses me is how can it be transmitted through the audio jack on my laptop?
Update: It even receives the signal when the wifi and bluetooth are disabled.
Sounds like the case is acting like an antenna. The problem is probably not the case but the audio jack not being properly shielded or grounded and the background noise is passing into it. It may have even been fine for a long time and the shielding has moved due to a jolt or the grounding became disconnected.
If it does not annoy you carry on nothing to worry about really, at least not that i can think of.
If it does annoy you you could take the laptop apart and check all connections, or if you don't want to take a laptop apart (i don't blame you they can be a nightmare of screws) bring it to somewhere for repair.
I've taken it apart once and with my laptop it's a unibody so there aren't many screws, just a lot of stickers that say, "do not remove" etc etc. At the moment it's not too bad and if it does get to me I can always use my USB headphones.
It also seems to only happen in one specific spot of my house so I guess as long as I don't sit there I'll be fine. Thanks for the explanation.
