Headphones for Music / Gaming / Travelling

Hey guys,

So previously I was looking for headphones just to replace my shitty roccat kones and gave a budget of around 100 euro. Now I am looking to  increase my budget to around 160 euro and try get the best all rounder headphones I can.

So far I am considering the following.

Audio technica ath m50

Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro

V MODA M - ( although I heard they are quite uncomfortable)

Grado SR60i

Denon AH-D1100

Klipsch Image One

M-Audio Studiophile Q40

Ultrasone Hifi 680

I wont lie when I say I would like something thats slightly asthetically pleasing, but it is definitely not a vital factor. So far I am leaning towards the 770 pro as I heard it has good bass however I'm open to suggestions!

Music I listen to : Irish Folk , Dub/Drumstep (majority of the time), DnB, Rock, Metal,  Acoustic (unplugged sessions).

Would really appriciate some feedback as I'm going insane looking up about 5000 reviews and topics on hifihead :D

Thanks alot! Payceeee

You should probably scrap the Grados - they are very bass light compared to the others and leak sound alot (you named travelling so...).

A fact is that the ATH-M50 and V-Moda M80 are best suited for using without an amplifier due to their low impedance. The lowest impedance DT-770 Pro comes in is 80 ohms, and HFI-680 is 75 ohms. They don't REQUIRE and amp, but the sound quality might be slightly reduced if driven from a cellphone etc, and if you like high volumes they may not achieve that.

I would really like to recommend the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro since they're low impedance and have adjustable bass ports, and I've heard great things about them, but they are a bit more expensive sadly at least going by Amazon prices.

If those aren't an option due to the price, it's hard to tell which one from the DT-770 vs ATH-M50 vs HFI-680 you should go for (the HFI-580 might be a cheaper option too, they have more bass than the HFI-680 though lack a bit in the rest of the spektrum compared to HFI-680). Maybe get the DT-770 and later on get something like the Fiio E10 to max out their potential.

Great again thats for your input ! Its actually impossible to get straight answers / impressions from most places on the web its crazy. I am thinking to invest in those beyerdynamic custom one pro after christmas, for now I have found on head-fi a huge thread where some guy discovered a really cheap but surprisingly awesome headphone called the Panasonic RP HTF 600 (maybe you have heard of them / have an opinion?) a lot of people are hailing it as a 150 dollar headphone thats undervalued. So I decided to grab a pair just for my next plane journey and see how impressive they really are.

If they turn out to be a bit lacking for my tastes then I'll be investing in those Custom One Pro's they seem perfect for what im looking for.

Again thanks spittis for the help!

I have the M50s and I only use them for movies. They just don't sound that good for music and aren't that comfortable for long periods of use unless you replace the pads with Shure 940/840 pads.

The Beyerdynamics Custom One's look brilliant for the price. Here's a review: http://www.head-fi.org/t/633413/beyerdynamic-custom-one-pro-review

I completely disagree with you on the M50's, I bought them for 130 euros, but they sound so much better than that. And not comfortable? what!?! They fit pretty nice i must say and i've used them several hours (3+) without my ears becoming hot or my head itching, but of course, there are way more comfortable headphones, but they are really decent especially for the price.

I wouldn't categorize them as bad, I just don't think they're as brilliant as they're made out to be. Particularly drums sound tinny and not very realistic on the M50s. And there isn't much instrument separation which leads to a slightly congested sound.

For $80 my Fostex T50RP are far superior, even if they are a little harder to drive. As for the comfort of the M50s, I guess it's all down to my massive ears. :P

I even had comfort trouble with the Sennheiser HD595 due to the edge of my ears touching the plastic enough to be uncomfortable after an hour of use.

I have a pair of m50s and they are great, and if you havent owned a good pair of headphones before they will blow your mind.
Also they have good  bass  so they will work good for DnB/EDM/Dubstep ect.

I use $20 (jvc ha-rx300) consistant sound, ugly as hell. Funny thing is when I get people asking how much they cost. They don't got extreme bass but they have a very clear sound to them and they have been selling for $20 for years. Well I wouldn't say they are ugly as hell, they are uglier than that.
