He won't kill his console… semi-tight budget

A friend of mine is a couriosity: 21 years old, no PC, Laptop or even Smartphone – ever…

Now he is living in his own space and got his hands on an old XBOX360 with an old CRT TV, but finally recognizes he needs a PC, and I have the honour to build him. He is kinda on a budget, around 600€ for everything, so i told him stop! at least 750€ when he wants everything new (monitor, mouse, everything).

i wanted a good specline, for future upgrading (not overclocking) when he starts to play more and more on his pc. His normal use will be YouTube, music and films, some office…

The List:

Exterieur:

  • Acer S242HLCbid, 24", LED-monitor ~ 129€
  • Sharkoon VG4-S Case ~ 25€
  • Cherry KC 1000 keyboard ~ 9€
  • Speedlink NEXUS Cradle Mouse ~ 30€ (he wants wireless mouse, but without spending on batteries)

~ 493 €

With shipping and everything it will be exactly: 722,37€ (incl. 19% VAT)

Extra Videocard is missing and will be the first upgrade if he chooses to play more on this rig, the i3 comes boxed, so no need for extra cpu cooler atm.

Do you guys and girls have ideas to get it less expensive but not much slower, maybe even better for the same buck? Or should i try something complete different?

why not a pentium G3258?

and use the extra money on a decent case because you'll regret the sharkoon case

or go AMD since BUDGET build best bang for buck.

At 300W you're not really leaving much room for a gpu to be added later. You don't need 8 gigs of RAM for Youtube save a little money there get a 4 gig stick leaving room for expansion later and spend the saved money on a slightly bigger psu so he'll not have to worry about having to upgrade that to upgrade anything else. Would also say why spend the extra money on an SSD when he's only going to be using it for basic things, just so he can have super fast boot up speeds? Yeah, save the money and he can upgrade later.

You have to keep in mind he might not ever want to play or use it more, so start with a cheap build with options to expand rather than half of the expansion already done and needing to replace parts in order to expand the rest.

Well ,you can use linux instead of windows. Might as well get them started on the better path then saddle them with winhog. :) Take the money saved and find a non k I5 .

k verses non k

I'd drop the cooler for a better GPU.

His normal use will be YouTube, music and films, some office…

I think that build is actually pretty ok idea for that kind of use, but the prices you have there are not very good.

Take a look at this. This is way cheaper with a better monitor, a better case, a newer CPU, a better and bigger SSD, better PSU and so on. No need to pay so much money for WIN 8.1 since we know now that we'll be getting Win 10 so soon. And the upgrade will be free, anyways.

You should try and talk him out of that wireless mouse thing. When you're on a budget it would be better to go with a decent wired one.

This build will serve the guy well. It's solid and upgradable. If he want's more power or game on this, just throw in a GPU or even an i5 or something and it'll be good. The PSU has plenty of headroom to handle that.
