I was wondering if it was possible to take the OS from my 1 TB Seagate Hard Disk Drive, and place it on an SSD. I think it's time to upgrade to Hard Drive for speed, but I really like my OS, because it's Windows 7 Enterprise, which I love so much. Is it actually possible to do something like this, or will I just need to get a new copy of Windows 7 Enterprise?
Most ssds come with software which will move the os to the ssd. You can also clone the disk to the ssd but for that you either need to have an ssd that is the same size or bigger than the hard drive or you need to shrink the partition so that it's smaller. Then you can use something like clonezilla to clone the hdd to the ssd.
Yes there are many ways to do what you want, just use migration software as its 100% foolproof. Samsung's retail kits come with the software as do others.
So an easy way
- see how much free space you have available on your hdd
- create new partition on that drive (if you havent got a spare hdd for bulk data - movies etc)
- move bulk data to new partition so your partition that contains the OS is less than the size of the intended SSD eg - say 110gb of OS partition and you buy a 256gb ssd.
- Use bundled migration software for transfer of OS partition to SSD
- Set boot order so SSD boots first
- Done.
>> of course if you have a SSD that exceeds your total consumed space on your existing HDD then you can just go about and do the migration and move stuff around at a later date.
Samsung whitepaper on its software.

Hope this helps.
To only move os to ssd to get fast speed and don't expect to reinstall system, besides the methods mentioned above you can use AOMEI Partition Assistant. This software will only migrate os to ssd. After the migration, enter BIOS to set boot from SSD. hope there is one more method for you to solve the problem.
