HDD Not Initializing

So I recently got rid of DirecTV and they just told us to recycle the box and give the card back. So I decided to open it and ripout the 500GB Seagate HDD that is in the DVR. I took it out and put in my PC and it wasn't recognized in My PC. I went to computer management and it won't initalize and just gives me an I/O device error. Which I have read mean't it has failed, but the hard drive was working not two days ago. I have researched an no one has actually found an answer from what I can see, and if they have, they either don't work or are to old. I'm using Windows 8.1 if that helps.

If its showing up and saying its unallocated try formatting it

Can't. I can't seem to do anything to the drive except view the capacity.

Put it in a PC with no other HDD then use DBAN to wipe it then trow it back in your main PC and format it Good luck!
