I just built a new PC with windows 8 on it. I have with it a 256GB SSD (Samsung) and a 1TB Seagate. Windows is obviously installed on the SSD. Going to disk manager, I click format on the 1TB drive. It has been "formatting" for about an hour now and when clicking anywhere on disk manager it does not respond. What do you guys think the problem is?
Try quick format, if you are doing that, try non-quick format. Larger drivers take quite a while to forgot. I had a 500gb one take about two hours.
Will do. If your 500GB drive took 2 hours... I'm going to be sitting a while.
I did the slow format, because I was having issues after doing quick format. Make sure to delete any partition that are on the drive first.
Tried quick format and got an error saying The Format was not Completed. I am now trying slow.
Have you tried shaking the drive while it's spinning?
I've tried everything you guys had suggested and still, nothing. I tried the slow formatting and left it running for about 7 hours. Still nothing. I can't think of what else to do besides getting another drive. Anyone else have an idea before I do this?
If it's a new hard disk, you have to create a partition/volume on the disk before you can format it, otherwise you aren't formatting anything. In Disk Management, right-click where the disks are listed on the left such as "Disk 0", "Disk 1". Presumably Disk 0 should be your SSD. Right-click the one that is the hard drive and click "New Simple Volume" then a wizard will come up and guide you through the process.
