hi everyone,
hay I'm having this problem with my hard drive it will not or no longer boot up unless i have ubuntu running, this happen when i went to try out ubuntu and i had the drive hook up and now it wont spin up less ubuntu is running. Is there a way to fix this ?
thank you
I don't think I understand what you mean. Do you mean your computer doesn't access your hard drive at all unless you're running Ubuntu from a LiveCD/LiveUSB?
yes i can not access my hard drive nor it will not power on (spin up) , unless im running unbuntu. I'v tried using different psu's but i still have the same problem. this is and internal drive, i'v also tried using external power but still no luck.also im using usb
You know, I was thinking along those lines but he said it wouldn't spin-up. Wouldn't a re-formatted drive still spin up and just be unreadable by any non-Linux OS that doesn't have ext3 fs support?
ok i might have to make a video to help explain my problem, well the drive works and if i wont to use the drive in windows, this what i have to do. start into ubuntu first, then restart, if i shut down the drive will shut down. i have formatted the drive and rest my bios and i still the same problem. any ideas?
Yeah.. Some more information of exactly what your trying to do would be helpful.
The hard drive won't power on.. But the computer will? Do you have more than one drive? Are you trying to boot into that drive or do you mean that drive is a second disk that isn't showing up in windows?
What did you do in Ubuntu? Did you install it.. Did you do anything to the computer with it?
Did you cha he boot order to get Ubuntu to boot? Does the drive show up in the BIOS?
The hard drive will not turn on (spin up), only if I boot into Ubuntu first. Yes, Wndows can detect the drive only if the drive is power on, i can not do this unless i boot in to Ubuntu first, so it can spin up (turn on).
How i got to this problem is that I down loaded ubuntu 14.04.2 (x86) and used Universal USB Installer 1.9.5.9 to install it on a usb drive.
i did not instill Ubuntu I used the option to To try out Ubuntu first, everything went just fine, I power down and power back on to windows, then i notice my hard drive was missing. This is where I'm at now.
I'v done this many times with out any problems untill now.
Question: is there any power management control in Ubuntu that could be effecting my drive?
