I am looking at purchasing an external drive in the near future and I'm debating between an external drive from the likes of WD or Segate. Versus buying a 1 TB drive and an enclosure.
Looking through the enclosures on newegg none of them look nice at all pretty tacky compared to like a WD My book and it's also a bit more of a hassle.
I'm thinking an ICY DOCK http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817198003
With a WDD 1tb (blue black or green?)
compared to like a WD Elements http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136469
Ive had nothing but bad experiences with enclosures.
Just buy a premade external drive. Worst case scenario, you can always take the drive out of it. I had a 500gig WD external drive for my dvr that eventually ended its life as an internal hdd.
that elements looks good, I've got 2 WD external drives both work great. If you do get an enclosure I would recomend steering away from WD blue drives, I bought two of them a while back and they've both given me a ton of problems.
I'm not buying a new enclosure if it doesn't have USB 3.0 and/or E-SATA III. I haven't checked the enclosures lately and don't know what the price for these features are, but you'll be fairly future proof with that if you can get them. I'd suggest getting those features in yours.
Look's like I'll just get an external drive and be done with. Enclosures seemed like more of a hassle than I though and the externals work well so there's no need to go the alternative method.
Now does anyone recommend any external drives? I'm guessing I should stick to Western Digital and not bother with any other brand?
