HD7950 in current/next gen games?

How well does the HD7950 fair on current and next gen games?? Would an upgrade needed?? How well would it run on a 1440p monitor with the current and next gen games??

1440p is a lot of pixels.  I would say that he HD 7950 is a great card, especially for the money, but that anything higher than 1080 or slighly lower settings on 1440 would be pushing it.

The 7950 is pretty much made for 1440p. I used to own one and can say it held its own at 1440p on battlefield 4 and planetside 2 on high/ultra settings.

Vram is no issue as 3gb is enough for 1440 and it does have the horsepower to use more.

The 7950 is about as good if not better than a 280x when its OC'd. In fact the the 7950 in most cases can oc to over 30%.

You Won't be playing games at max settings with it. That said you won't need as much AA for the card because a standard 1440 display will do AA for u.

AND the difference between high/medium settings is not all that much if you need to turn settings down for frames.

To add- my friend IRL has a 7950 OC'd by 40% and is able to run all of his library no problem at high settings

Well that's pretty damn good getting 40% OC. I am actually thinking about OCing the card but I am not quite sure how to deal with it atm.

You've got a point there being the 1440p handling the AA. 27" 1440p quite a lot of pixels.

"used to"?? So you upgraded?? Did anything happen to the card or was it just the time for you to change the card??

you will have to mess with the voltage to get it that high though.

Most 7950s I've seen on line have gone to 1100Mhz and some over

7950 is quite suitable for 1440p. Should play most games on ultra

At 1440p, you would be looking at medium settings at least if the so called next gen games are as demanding as they are saying, but it still better than anything a console could do. So if you don't need the highest settings, and/or don't mind lower frame rates(< 60 but usually > 30) a 7950 is fine especially if you over clock it.

What are the exact clocks? THe 7950 launched at like 800mhz or so but then the boost edition had higher clocks "out of the box".

With voltage tweeking he's been able to hit 1150Mhz... I'm sure he could hit 1200 If he tried really hard and got some better cooling but he mostly runs it at 1100Mhz.

What if you ran 2 HD 7950's in Crossfire, how would that improve things ?

For games that support multiple GPUs, there would be a decent amount of scaling.
