Anyone want to get a group together for Hawken? I've been playing it a lot lately, and it'd be pretty cool to play with a group from Tek Syndicate.
Downloading it right now. Is it any good? Callsign: Gandu
edit: 10mbps download.. just finished playing a bit of the tutorial and an online game. I suck at it, not my cup of tea.. :/
It's got a little bit of a learning curve to it. You just have to find a mech that suits your play style and learn how to use it effectively.
I've personally been using a Bruiser which I've heavily modified to fit my playing style. Normally the Bruiser comes with a mini-gun, lock-on hellfire missiles, and a deployable turret. I'm still using the hellfire missiles because that's the main reason I got the mech in the first place and you can't change it anyway, but I'm using an SMG instead of the minigun because it's a little more accurate and produces less heat (although it only deals half the damage), and I replaced the deployable turret with an explosive charge that pretty much works like a remote mine with a rocket booster on it.
I've also upgraded the armor, rocket boosters, explosive weapons damage, and added an ability that allows me to repair faster as well as repair other teammates. I've gone purely offensive so far when it comes to my tech tree, so I'm doing as much damage as I possibly can, and I'm going to be throwing a couple of points into the defensive tech tree in the future just for some minor upgrades.
I also have an ability that allows me to take more hits than usual for probably about 10 seconds when activated.
This combination is working very well for me, because I can output tremendous amounts of damage, which allows me to dispatch my enemies very efficiently as long as I'm accurate. It's also a medium class mech, which means I still have a decent amount of mobility, but I can take more hits than a light mech and my weapons are a little more potent.
Light mechs are obviously faster, espeically when they start putting mobility upgrades into the equation, but they also have less armor and weaker weapons systems (usually). Heavy mechs are heavily armored, slower, and output crazy amounts of damage. Heavy mechs used to scare me, but they're not as much of a problem anymore now that I can deal so much damage in a very short period of time. Light mechs are giving me some trouble now simply because they're so fast and can run circles around me. I have to make sure to keep them at a distance, but if I can't then it usually comes down to trying to keep track of where they are and still being accurate. Light mechs are much harder to destroy at close range though.
