Having some audio problems, need help!

so a while ago I was watching a YouTube video and I accidentally unplugged my headphones, but when I tried to plug them back in, no sound was coming out.
eventually I found myself in the device manager of the sound settings, it seems as though windows thinks my headphone jack is a line in, as when I plug and unplug, the “line in” tile appears and disappears.
this is really weird because my laptop only has one jack for headphones and none for microphones, so why is is detecting as a line in?
I’ve tried everything I could, I’ve updated the drivers, and re-booted the thing like a million times at this point, but to no avail.
whats going on?
im using a dell latitude 3300 with stock specs.

Try installing the Waves Maxx audio application from dell’s site, also see if it runs on start-up, I had that thing pop up and change on bios updat and such so it is very erratic some of the time

Is the actual headphone plug okay?
the end bit hasn’t been pulled slightly too long to let the headphones plug all the way in?
