Has anybody else tried to make a 1U Server Form Factor as part of a Desk PC / Personal Rig?

You’re describing a small enclosed, 4-post rack. Someone probably already makes this, although 4U would be uncommon.

Here’s a 9u:

Mounting the open vertical racks to the desk is the way to go though, imo. It’s already difficult enough to work on, I wouldn’t want an additional layer of enclosure.

Yeah, you’re right, that’s incredibly close to what I want.

You just need to cut it down from 9U to 5U/6U and rotate it 90° to have the racks slide out forward sideways and vertically oriented.

Adjust the Form factor to resemble a classic Lian Li “Full Tower” in orientation.

And of course have the sizing fit either 19" or 23" Wide racks depending on Mid/Full Tower setup that handle 24" deep U-Racks.

exactly. I had a setup like that for years with PC in a 4u rack case sitting next to a trident series 80. I still have racks and eventually will go to PCs in the closet in a rack.
