Hardware for AMD Reset Bug Fixes

If it’s boring then don’t worry about it. I’m just interested in learning more about the process and how it works. I haven’t done anything with hardware, but I’m a software engineer and like learning and tinkering with new things.

Second this. It’s not boring, it’s amazing.

Oh I’m so excited I can’t wait. Christmas came early!

whoop whoop!

Oh I’m so hyped for this for I’m going to add a second VII soon™.

But save the koalas first! I know, we’re piling a lot on you

Don’t jump the gun just yet, initial work on the reset isn’t looking good, it resets but ends up in an unusable state.

Ah, that’s unfortunate.

Thanks much for the info!

Very unfortunate. I’ve got a pair waiting to go into a Proxmox build. I’m wondering if it’s worth it going through the trouble. Is there a AMD GPU I can get that just works?

Unfortunately there is nothing AMD that “just works” at current.

Indeed, I’m very appreciative of you taking your time to investigate this.

I remember when I bought this GPU I thought I was going to make life easier for myself in terms of compatibility and future proofing  It’s a shame AMD doesn’t give much help on something like this.

Anything we can do to help @gnif? Some cash for a redbull/beer/coffee/drink of choice?

At the bottom of this page there are some options.

Looking Glass is another one of gnif’s awesome projects.

Haha, I felt the same about my 5700XT. Oh well, we’ll all eventually get it worked out thanks to the wonderful work of @gnif, AMD and the community at large.

Glad you were able to raise the funds and find one. I have been away from the forum for soooooo long, I only just saw this post today.

Thanks again for all your work fixing this reset bug and all those who donated to see this happen on the Radeon VII

I recommend:>
https://www.shipito.com/en

I used this webpage, in order to ship books from the US to Sweden, that couldn’t be shipped directly. Since I have already put my faith in them to ship the stuff to me without problem. I suppose, that I can recommend them without problem. It’s a great service for those outside of USA.

How is everything going? Is it a lost cause @gnif ?

Every few months I sit down and have another look at AMD’s reset code in their amdgpu driver and see if there is anything new we can use here. Unfotunatly there has been nothing of use to us yet, and AMD are still not giving any extra information or hints as to where to go next. So dead in the water, but I have not given up yet.

Hi,

What’s the current state of the 5700XT ? I tried finding some answers on the forum but it’s kinda confusing.

I understand there’s “the fix” that @gnif made, but as I can see it’s still being quite discussed here making me think it’s not 100% fixed.

So what’s the state of 5700XT and the patch? If we disregard the inconvenience of having to patch and compile it yourself (I don’t mind doing that), are there any other issues with the card in VFIO or is it generally OK ?

Or, should I expect issues and the fix to not work all the time, or similar ?

Any kind of overview would be highly appreciated as I’m building a new box now and 5700XT fits my budget perfectly, but I wanna do VFIO (Arch host on R9 380 and Windows guest). Thanks!
