Hardware Encrypted USB Drive Removal

Hi!

I have been looking into buying a few hardware encrypted USB drives.. But one thing I can't really find any information on is the removal of the drives? Would it be safe just pull it out after having moved data to it or does it have to encrypt the data before I remove it?

I know some solutions like the Aegis Secure Key and Kingstons DataTraveler 2000 have a build-in battery for use with the keypad and encrypting the drive after its removed.. But with products like Kingstons DataTraveler Vault Privacy 3.0 and DataTraveler 4000 G2 I can't find any documentation on how they encrypt or if its safe to remove it without doing anything beforehand?.. Or have I just overseen some part of this whole thing?

If anyone has an answer to this please post it here or send me an email at [email protected]

Feel free to suggest other strongly encrypted USB drives if you have any! :D
And don't be afraid to get into some techy details.. I'm not completely new to this :b

By the way.. Isn't the "DataTraveler 2000" "datAshur" and "Aegis Secure Key" Literally the same product? Except for the branded protection case don't they look completely identical?

Thank you very much for reading this! :b <3

I remember seeing the crappy little rubber ducky USB keys that vendors give out at events getting cracked and an active encryption toolset being installed on those. It would run an EXE and pop up with a password box and you would have a 256 bit file you would throw at it. I think they talked about it on Hak5? It was called Red something... Redcenter? Maybe someone here has seen it before but you can make one that actively indexes and encrypts yourself for not too much.
