- the hard drive shows in bios and i have heard the drive turn on.
- tried other sata ports. nothing's wrong with them
- set bios to default settings with no o/c, the drive DOES show up in bios
- deleted the partition on the drive in parted magic (shows up fine here)
I've tried the following in windows:
1. device manager. doesn't show up under disk drive
2. disk management, doesn't show up here.
3. view hidden devices , still doesn't show up
4. finally reformatted windows 10 freshly, and still nothing.
I'm at a loss, the only thing i can figure is that the drive isn't compatible with my motherboard somehow? but then how does it show up in bios & parted magic? must be windows 10 fault lol
Do you have hot plug enabled in the bios? If not, turn it on and reboot - if that doesnt fix it, boot into windows, open device manager, unplug the drive, plug back in, and scan for hardware changes.
I would try this drive in another system to make sure it's not the drive that bought the farm before I would go any further.
literally had hot swap enabled already, double checked it, bios did shut hot swap off when i reset it to default. re-enabled hot swap, booted into my fresh install of win10, still not showing up, unplugged it and plugged it back in, scanned hardware for changes and rescanned for disks, nothing.
think i may boot parted magic into and fool around a bit trying to search for it. i mean it does show up in parted magic but maybe the drive is dying or maybe i need to completely wipe the disk with 0's.
darick's boot & nuke worked. it showed up and i was able to initialize it & format it.
