Handbrake 1.0 and Debian

Good evening,
I'm trying to rip a couple of DVDs on my second desktop computer. I just installed debian on it since I did have good experiences with it on my tertiary machine.

Since Handbrake released Version 1.0 I wanted to use it. There are only pre-built packages available for Ubuntu and I hit a couple of snags compiling handbrake from source.

Quick question: are any Ubuntu version's .deb files compatible with debian Jessie (I tried Zesty Zapus, which did not work). And before I sink another two hours into this project, I thought I'd ask for help.

disclaimer: They are home-grown DVDs, so no copyright violation.

I don't use handbrake for ripping, I've always used makemkv.

I've always found it easier to work with out of the box, on any distro.

most of the time yes. Might have to install some additional libraries

you might have to install DVD CSS cracking libraries anyway foro home-grown dvds as sometimes burners will still use CSS on the dvds

Little late to the party bud.
