That sounds promising. If it’s detecting all 4 DIMMS, I’d run memtest and let it go through a couple of test passes just to be sure before booting into Proxmox. Would suck to corrupt your VMs if memory wasn’t stable.

I already booted into it when I started to put the 4x4 PCI → NVME card in. But I snapshotted all the VMs before starting this journey.
But it seems to run now even with the GPU plugged in. Proxmox is grabbing it and not doing the GPU passthrough anymore, but that’s a different issue to fix.
Proxmox also shows 64Gb now.
Also now with the “original” config with pair 1 on slots 1 and pair 2 on slots 2 seems to work. This is so confusing I wonder what the issue was?
If the whole thermal paste thing would not be so annoying to clean I would put the 1200 back.

Passthrough issue was only a wrong BIOS setting!
Probably just needs to be re-enabled in BIOS

Which idles most of the time. 
I guess it is very likely it was the 1200 and the issues now were not related?
