Alright first let me show you my current rig
What I also have to mention is that I have been a console gamer for 10 years because I thought it would be less of a hassle. I want to jump back into PC gaming which I miss dearly but I can't exactly run Battlefield 3 on this humble thing can I ? xD
Alright so my current rig is an HP...um something or something bought just about 10 years ago. It has a Pentium 4 3.0ghz Processor, 1.2GB of RAM and a Radeon 9200 AGP GPU. Now I have been told that this is pretty old tech and in the words of my friend "Dude AGP...That's like Mayan technology". So I decided that I needed to make my own rig. I assembled this part list with the help of a friend. So here is the list.
Core i5 3570K,
Asus MAXIMUS V FORMULA,
Noctua Sandwich NH-D14,
Gskill RipjawsX Red 2x4GB DDR3 1600mhz,
Samsung 22x sata dvdrw,
Asus GTX680,
Corsair TX650M ,
WD Caviar Blue 1TB ,
CM 690 II Advanced USB3.0 ,
Windows 7 Home Premium OEM.
Your thoughts on this list guys?
Looks good to me. I'd personally rather have a Caviar Black drive than a blue though, and you might want to pick up an SSD while you're at it too. A nice SSD would make that rig perfect.
Also, are you getting a new monitor? Because that CRT has to go, lol.
Yeah I am opening up to the idea of an SSD to put my OS on. So a Caviar Black would be a better choice then?
what's your budget? and do you live in the states or canada?
Neither XD, I'm from Malaysia but the parts I listed here are readily avalible here as is many more. If I converted my budget to US dollars it will be $1780.
Yeah my friend also said "Your CRT monitor offends my eyes deeply" so I will be getting a montor. I still have no idea what to get specifically but I probably won't spend too much on a monitor. That being said I won't be getting one like the current one I have XD.
see if you can find these, they have uber low latencies

Yeah I know where to get these, thanks dude for the input.
The Caviar Black drives are more geared towards speed than the Blues are, so it should be a faster drive. When it comes to SSDs, I would suggest either a Crucial M4 or A Samsung 830 Series.
I personally think this monitor is pretty awesome:

The picture on that will be awesome. Just keep in mind that the screen is really glossy, so it might not be so good if it's going to be in a room with a lot of light, since it will produce glare pretty easily. If the monitor will be in a room with a lot of light, then I would suggest this instead:

Thanks for the info dude! Yeah I only have one light in my PC room, its bright enough to light the room but hopefully its not bright enough to have a negative effect on the monitor. The HP monitor looks downright gorgeous
As a sidenote I will not be picking up speakers, I will rely on some really good high quality headsets. Maybe some Astros or a Razer.
I would suggest Sennheiser if you can afford a nice set.
Thanks for the suggestion, I have a pair of P41s laying around somewhere but that thing has a remote on the cable that is heavy enough to drag my head down while I'm playing. So yeah I will check out the Sennheiser headphones now as well. Thanks for your input it means a lot!
No problem. I have a pair of Sennheiser 558's and they're pretty amazing.
Quick question guys is my power supply (Corsair TX650M) enough to for my rig?
I think it's just at the edge of possible, I would personally go for a bit bigger PSU, like an 850W or even 1000W if you maybe plan to add a second card later on.
In that case I think I will shell a little more for the TX850M.
about half of its potential is being used, 376w

850 and 1000 is over kill even for two 680s
650 watts is fine. I might go up to 750 or 850 if you added a second card though.
So consensus so far is that my current planned PSU is good...as long as I dont go with a Crossfire or SLI setup. Thanks guys you have been a massive help :)
