H80, H100, or alternate suggestion

Hey, guys.

I'm here with another question. So at this point I'm in the process of moving from AMD to intel, going from my Athlon II x4 640 to a 3570K. The board I'll be using is the MSI Z77 M-power, PSU will be the Corsair AX-850, and the case will soon be the Corsair Graphite 600t White. I'm aware both coolers will fit in the case, but I just can't decide if the H100 is worth the extra money. Overclocking will be happening, so I want my CPU running nice and cool. Note: I am currently using a Coolermaster V8 CPU cooler on the AMD chip - with a little OC of .4ghz.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Why not spend the $100 on a better cpu rather than spending it on cooling so you can rape your cpu into being better?

Honestly, the price:performance ratio isn't really worth it between the 3570K and the 3770K -- well, not for me anyway. The 3770K will give me a few more FPS in-game and hyperthreading. I don't need hyperthreading, so I would prefer spending the extra money on a cooler. Thanks for the reply, though.

I asume hyperthreading is not important because the rig is for gaming in that case the performance gain from overclocking wont make a big diffrence ither. I would spend the extra money on gfx an ssd a nice mouse something else.

If you really want to overclock then the h80 will do 4ghz

The video card I'm not going to upgrade until the next generation of cards. I currently have a Sapphire 2gb 6950 dirt 3 edition. Already have a Crucial M4 128gb that I'm super happy with, and have a razer deathadder v2 -- which I adore. The soul reason for this upgrade is so my ram can actually run at it's full speed, and to stop the CPU bottlenecking my video card. Plus, Intel just has a better upgrade path at this point. Thanks for the suggestion :)

V8 is a pretty good cooler. I would just keep it (if you can get a bracket for a 1155 chipset). You most likely can get a 4ghz OC with it no problem. Save the money.

YOUR CPU ISN'T THE BOTTLENECK

intel doesn't have an upgrade path twit......

your graphics card is the bottleneck.... your a whole 2 or 3 generations behind

Noctua NH-D14 Topic Closed!

He said he has a 6950. That is a single generation back. It is still a good video card for mid to high end gaming. Its not the graphics card.

He is using an Athlon II, like hell it isn't a bottleneck.

Part 2 is mostly true intel sockets and CPUs are pretty locked in

His GPU is only one generation behind and plenty powerful.

Also H100 is a great cooler and IB does tend to run a bit hot, you could probably get away with less but your temps are far more likely to hit uncomfortable temps

Yeah... no.

CPU is bottleneck.

XSPC Raystorm 750 RS360 Water Cooling Kit <-- almost the same price as a h100, all you need is a litre of coolant.

H100 pipes crack, so I wouldnt touch them, get the H100i if you want a corsair.

If you want air: CoolerMaster Hyper 612 PWM CPU Cooler

Noctuas are just over priced for what they are now.

I have one and I'm nothing but happy with it. They are pricey, but if you can grab one on a sale they're gold. Got mine for $60 I think from ncix a while back.

Commissar, are you fucking retarded?

That's twice what you can get a H100 for and also requires maintainance. The pipes cracking is incredibly rare, like .001% and even if they do Corsair will replace every part.

Thanks heaps for the suggestions, guys. And Commisar, I have no idea what you're going on about.

If I were going to stick with air, I would most probably just stay with the Coolermaster V8 I currently have. But the IB chips do get fairly toasty, so I want a bit better cooling.

Commissar everyday all I have to do it browse the thread for five mintues and I can find you making a fool of yourself. Do you do drunk posting, because it's probably just like drunk texting, a mistake...

Really? You all think the 3570K is the bottle neck? Stop being silly guys you are all so silly.
