H100i for 212evo

my 18/yo brother wants to trade his h100i for my 212evo because his non-overclocked thermals are to high for his liking.. wouldn't this make them worse?

hes convinced the cooler doesn't function properly.
I'm convinced he just has a hot chip.

his chip i5 4690k stock clock with turbo
my chip fx8120 4.0ghz OC my

What are his thermals? Is the h100i mounted correctly?

yeah i did mounting my self, it has the stock paste tho.
idle is like 35C and load is 60C (he said its never been over 70 unless you stress test.)
hes fine will max load he just hates that it idles so high

Those appear to be perfectly acceptable thermals... i doubt a 212 would be an improvement of any sort. Methinks his expectations are too high maybe? Idk what temps others get with that chip and cooler so I couldn't tell you.

I think your right he probably just has the tuner set to quiet do it idles higher than he would like it
ill figure it out next time i go over there.

this doesnt make sense he probably wont get lower temps with the 212evo i have one and i get around 38 on idle but on a 6600k

The 212 EVO cooler is way worse then a H100i.
But his temps look fine to me for a 4690K.

Nothing really wrong with those temps

Is it a manual overclock or a "super, awesome, fantastic, totally legit, CPU level up, preset" overclock?

The latter tends to set voltage too high.

That is an under statement. Perhaps 2 fans on 212(push/pull) for the best performance, as a test will convince him that you are right ! (IMO)

Thats better than my laptop :I tell him to stop being so picky

yeah i think i will bring it over there to show him that it wont make it any better.

@MisteryAngel you can close this thread, idk why i even made it, just looking for reassurance i guess.

H100i GT? The GT may have a pump problem. I had a similar issue for the H80i GT that I used for my 290x.

Well 60°C on load is pretty normal for a Haswell chip.
Tj-max of Haswell is somewhere arround 95°C or something like that.
So there is realy nothing to worry about for you brother.
