I have an interesting thing here up for discussion. I have an nzxt phantom 410,and I recently installed an h100. I bought it with the intention of upgrading to a push pull config. Little did I know that this is not possible in a 410. So what I did was mount the rad on top and the fans bellow it pushing air out. My question is should I change it all around? I mean fans on top drawing air in and the rad bellow them?.
Current setup is : 1x 120 mm fan front of the case drawing air in at the lower drivebay. This will be placed on the drive bay rotator within the case pushing air upwards to the rear exhaust.
1x140mm fan on the door of the case its pretty low (at the vga height)(pushing air out) This is going to be placed at the front of the case to draw air in from the drivebays, just havent got to that yet
1x120 mm fan at the back of the case pushing air out(next to the io shield)
and last but not least the h100 on top rad on top fans bellow it pushing air out!
I am making this topic as I noticed my temps arent as I expected.. when I am in iddle my cpu temps are between 25-30( I gues they should be like a stable 20) when I game or do something demanding they will hit 50.. even when I hit the fans up to full rpm they might be between 40-45. the cpu isnt overclocked and I have just ordered a new thermal compound mx-4 i think?(dunno by how much that will affect things as I am using stock compound that came with the h100.
1 Last thing nothing on my PC is overclocked! running 3570k stock clock speed! using asrock extreme4 atx mobo and 7950 xfx dd (dunno if these components are of any help to my problem etc. AH! and all my fans are connectect to the NZXT phantom 410 fan controller.. please do not be mean I think the topic is pretty clean:)
I have an H100 with Corsair SP120 fans in push/pull cooling my i7 2600K which is overclocked to 4.6Ghz. I'm using a Cooler Master HAF X case and Arctic Cooling MX-4 thermal paste.
At idle, my temps stay between 25-35 Celcius, but my room is pretty cool now that it's winter. Your idle temperatures sound about normal to me. What is your ambient temperature? If those are your full load temperatures, those sound pretty good too, because my CPU stays between 67-73 Celcius at full load.
room temperature is between 20-21 degrees celcius, on load (when gaming) they go up to around 40' friends tell me they get about 20 at most iddle with an h80.. and I am getting 10 degrees more which is what got me worried:o
Are their room temps around 16c? Then it would make sense for the 20c idle temps they are getting, Vortex has a pretty solid H100 with quality fans and his temps are right on with yours. Either your friends have their rooms fairly cold at 16c-ish or they have slightly bent the truth on you.
hehe john this is what I am worried about that my friend is exagurating a bit. But! I have read that a good thermal paste may make cooling a cpu easier. and even if my friend is bullshitting me, I want my system to be efficient:) so change my configuration? flip my radiator fans to pull air inside?
Keep your rear fan exhausting, and front fan pulling in. Rad on top, fans below pulling air in through the rad. This way you will have positive pressure, and you can easily wipe off dust that collects on the rad, vs having dust on the fans and on the under side of the rad where its a pain in the arse to clean. PLus you're pulling cool air through the rad.
I have a 410 with an H100, 3570k@ 4.6ghz and a 7970ghz. It stays around 26-27c. You cant go below ambient temps, plan on +1 to +3 degrees from ambient at idle.
Your friends could be getting inaccurate readings, or the ambient temps in there houses are around 65c. lol We will probably never know. Happy building!
Oki I got 2 new components for my build today:P couldnt be bothered to remove the rad, so I just changed the fan config from push to pull, added cathods to my system(1 of the things that came in today), but couldnt be fucked to change thermal paste(thats the second thing I got today), but I was shocked, from 28-30 degrees I am at 18-20 on iddle and up to now during gaming nothing has passed 35!!!! I am shocked:P and my fans are set to low rpm, from the fancontroller on the case! Civil1an do you use the case fan controller for all your fans(this is what I am doing atm) is it a good idea?
Awesome, I'm glad it helped. The two fans on my rad are plugged in to the H100 block, and the block is plugged into my cpu fan header on my board. The rest ( 2 front, 1 rear) are plugged into the case fan contoller. I keep the controller on low for quietness, my cpu temps during games are never above 35, like you said.
