Since I spend all my free time in front of the monitor and I often get headache, eye strain etc.
I wanted to get one of the GUNNAR Glasses.
Any opinions about them ? Pro's/Con's? Worth of paying that amount of money?
Any recommendation's ?
I suffer from the same problems. Got a pair, and they really do help. Especially for those long hours of coding. If you're going to use them whilst gaming, get the steelseries ones, as they have flat sides; and are useful with wearing in combination for a headset. Other than the frames they all pretty much do the same thing, just pick one you think is coolest.
I don't believe in gunnars. to me they just seem like a bunch of hype that gives as much functionality as led's everywhere. I can't download software that afftects the screens that supposedly helps with eye strain because of my jobs strict download rules. I just take breaks frequently. get up and get some water or something.
Just download a pair of gunnars ;)
But seriously check this out, pretty much does the same thing but with software.
Would you think the Razer one's would fit good with an headset? (Siberia V3 if it matters)
Since almost everything in my ,,gaming room" is black/green they would fit the best.
They don't seem to look as thin as the steelseries one's tho.
Hmm they seem like they would work.
i have a pair, they help quite a bit especially during late night sessions, my eyes dont burn as much haha
Everyone that have used them sais it does work. And they are not that expencive... I can get them here for around 60$... I love pricing in europe... Sometimes...
There is really no need to purchase Gunnars, you can just grab any off the shelf glass that block the Blue light waves from LED's.
Although the Gunnars are more stylized and sleek opposed to the cheap replaceable hardware eye protection.
Silver Bullet solution: You should get your eyes checked, at the eye mechanic (optometrist).
I had the same problem a while back, and I too spend a tonne of time at the PC. Gunnars aren't just a placebo effect, but you can get the same effect from Flux. Flux helped a little, but it wasn't lasting.
I went and only needed a smallish prescription (For reading only). Got the glasses and the headaches cleared up within 2 days. I cant imagine life without them.
The previous visit to the peeper technician (2 years ago) I didn't even need anything, so my current prescription developed in that time. They say you should get them checked every 2 years. This might not be your problem, but appointments are free (where I live anyway). So if you haven't done one recently, get to it.
I'll give my experience with a Stigmatism (forgive spelling, enjoying the fermented fruits of other people's labor)
Get an eye check by an optometrist
If he says you need a prescription ask for it.
Buy glasses online at cheapest price (PM me for recommendation of site, I don't want to advertise)
get yellow tinted glasses.
feel less aweful about your eyes
IIRC Gunnars are just yellow tinted lenses with a very slight magnification to help with eye strain on close viewing like computer monitors.
I already was checked by an optometrist.
He said my eye's have a slight weakness.
And sitting in front of an Monitor doesn't make anything better.
He told me about the GUNNAR page and that's why I am now here.
I have some Gunnars i really like them, specially when its dark in the room, very comfy on the eyes
hmmmm might get them soon if i have 80 AUD on hand which I don't have on hand right now. I kinda need them since my eyes are starting to get sore and Flux does not work for me.
I assume you got a prescription as well?
It looks like these glasses are literally more of a branding thing? Apart from that they look on paper to just be tinted glasses with the usual coatings.
So in saying that, literally any glasses will do if you need glasses. As others have mentioned things like flux will give the same results, or.. turning the lights on.
Also $10 glasses with tints.
@diluzio91 do you have yellow tinted glasses? I have gray tints (along with no tinted glasses), I like the gray, it doesnt change the colours much and has a decent contrast.
Only since I turned 40 did I start to get dry and tired eyes at work after a day using LCD monitors. I did get an eye check and got some reading glasses but only for books/ereader So I bought a pair of NoScope tinted glasses for the office and almost immediately I was again able to work all day without eye strain.
So something is working and I've also read glasses help to stop your eye drying up if you stare and don't blink normally.
I didn't like the software solution and prefer just to pop the glasses on when reading static stuff. They are much cheaper than the Gunnar's though with slightly chunky arms.
I'd still consider the Gunnar's longer term and for wearing with VR headsets, headphones etc.
F.Lux is the way to go here. I do not suffer with tired eyes so much and don't use it in my PC but I use it on my phone a lot and it really is nice for not cutting the eyes out of you when you wake up and run on the screen. The effect us the same on PC.
So save some cash and just get flux.
+1 for F.Lux. Works really well.
^ This.
I personally use flux and it helps a LOT, it will take some getting used to as it turns your screen 'warm'
IIRC there is not a android app but there is a seperate android app called 'twilight' that does the same thing with greater control.
Keep in mind it wont help if you actually need glasses and your eye strain is the result of bad eye sight.
