[GUIDE] Package ryzen npt/acs patches into Fedora kernel package

It is, but it was backported by many distros, unfortunatly Debian wasn’t one… right now I am building a new kernel…

Did a quick search in the kernel 4.14.3 patch and found the NPT patch was included. For some reason, even Sid still uses 4.14.0 (I think) but that’s Debian for ya.

Hi stenstorp,

great guide. I just found out about the ACS patch and would like to use it on my x470 Taichi Ultimate running Fedora 30. I am new to kernel compilation so the below questions may be silly.

Question:

  1. Does Fedora 30 already include the ACS patch and it just needs to be enabled?
  2. If Fedora 30 already includes the patch, is there a way to find out what patches arrive with new Fedora versions?
  3. After the kernel is compiled and built, is there a way to see whether the patches made it in?

Thanks for checking it out  these are certainly not silly questions.

  1. The ACS patch is not included by default and likely never will be. It’s a bit of a hack only needed for some motherboards.
  2. If you want to find out if new patches/changes will be in the latest kernel, you can “watch” this git repository: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/kernel/, its the official kernel sources for Fedora.
  3. If you follow the guide correctly, the patches should be applied. To check if it’s working as intended, run this script: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PCI_passthrough_via_OVMF#Ensuring_that_the_groups_are_valid. Devices should be in their own IOMMU groups. In fact, you should probably run it before doing anything to ensure that you need it. If the output looks like this you probably don’t need it:

Hi @stenstorp

thanks, so what about the follow:

  1. List itemThe output suggests that the ASMedia USB controller is lobbed together wtih advanced micro devices in Group 15. Would the ACS patch separate them?

  2. Which parts of teh ACS patch should I copy? The whole page?

So long as the graphics card and it’s audio controller is in it’s own group it’s fine. If it is, then you don’t need the patch.
If you do need it, you need to copy the whole patch, every line.
