Hey everyone, I’m thinking about making the move at work from my Windows workstations to Red Hat 8 workstations. I think I should be able to make the move no issue, except for one thing: a GUI text editor that has one specific feature. The feature I need is the editor needs to have the ability to click and drag the cursor down which then allows me to edit multiple lines at the same time (see gif below). This feature is absolutely critical to me and would kill my productivity in many situations if I didn’t have it.
I know there are a few editors that have this feature that are on Linux, my main issue is our work has a zero-trust policy for software. All software must go through a change control process that is long and not guaranteed to approve your software. Luckily for me, we have the entire Red Hat 8 Satelite (Dev edition or something like that) software package approved.
So I guess my question to you guys is, is there an editor included in the Red Hat 8 Satelite package that has the feature I need? I might be able to have them approve the Linux version of Visual Studio Code without much issue. It also can’t be some kind of plug-in or add-on to the software for two reasons, 1) I will not be an admin on the box, and 2) I will not have Internet access and am not allowed to download software myself.
