GTX760 with an i3: Any problems?

Hey guys, my brother's looking for a new gaming computer, and after seeing the one I just built run pretty much everything I throw at it better than the consoles, he's leaning hard. So, I'm thinking of building him a mATX or mini-ITX rig for his room/the basement. My rig an an all AMD flavour, but I'm thinking of getting him a Blue and Green flavoured.

The problem is, I don't want it to be insanely underpowered. So I was thinking of getting either a 760 with an i3 if I go the Intel route, but if there will be some problems, I would probably just go to what I know best, AMD.

Help me out here, guys. Is there any bottleneck by coupling these parts? What would be the minimum to have no bottlenecking with an i3, and what would be the minimum to have no bottlenecking with a 760.

Let me know.

Thanks.

what games does he want to play?

The FX 6350 can out perform an i3, I would either stick with AMD or if you want intel, get a 4670(k)

Honestly, even he doesn't know. He hasn't touched the 360 in weeks except for Netflix, hence why I went with a relatively mid-range card, so in case he wants to game, he can just open steam and go. But he usually plays GTA and Ass Creed. When GTAV comes out on PC (hopefully), he'll poop his pants.

Well, since you're suggesting AM3, what sort of case would be good for an under-the-TV build? Maybe a HAF case or a Bitfenix?

If you want to do a MITX case, you'd most likely have to go intel route.

Yea, cause the only mITX mobos for AMD CPUs are FM2+. But yea, I don't mind. I just kind of suck with Intel CPUs, haha.

Even something like the Fractal Design Core 1000 is small, although its only mATX its still a solid case for only around £40.

I think the Core 1000 might be a bit too big for his liking, and even mine. And I don't think it'll fit in our tiny TV stand. I was thinking of the BitFenix Prodigy, one of the Cooler Master cases, or if I'm feeling like spending a nice hunk of change and making it look like a console, a SilverStone RVZ01. Just something that doesn't take up a crap load of room. If I was absolutely gonna go vertical, the biggest I would go with would be the Rosewill Ranger-M, cause colours and square, haha.

thanks for the help, though.

Yeah I suppose you have the Cooler Master elite 130, but bear in mind that case has no dust filters, which is why I like Fractal, not sure about the others on the dust filter front

Honestly, I do a thorough cleaning of the internals of every computer once a week, so dust filters aren't too big of an issue for me.

In that case *excuse the pun* the cooler master would be a good route, but yeah you would need to keep on top of maintenance

I'd look more towards the Bitfenix Phenom, as the prodigy can be pretty big with the little arms.

Don't skimp on the CPU, put down the extra ~$40 and go for at least the i5-4570.

Maybe you can show us your proposed partlist and we can try and squeeze some higher end stuff in?

+1 the 4570 great CPU have it in my 2nd machine :)
