Hey,
I am going to be updating my GPU very soon but I can't decide between the nVidia GTX660TI or the GTX670. I am using my PC primarily for video editing on Avid MC6 but I do game a fair bit too, just I tend to build my PC's with editing in mind before I think of gaming specs. My main question really is, would it be worth the extra money spent to pick up a 670 over the 660TI?
get the 7870
For editing, yes the 670 would definitely be worth it. Avid products (like Adobe) use CUDA cores, so the more the better! Even though the 660 Ti and the 670 have the same amount of CUDA cores, the 670 would still give you more performance mainly because the memory interface is 256-bit vs the 660 Ti's 192-bit.
The 670 will give you much more performance, especially in Avid and it will also be noticeable in games. However, if you are really tight on money, then save the $80 and get the 660 Ti. Don't listen to the AMD recommendations, AMD cards simply aren't meant for editing in programs that are optimized for CUDA. They lag behind and render much much slower (believe me, the editing lab I use has 7770's and it's ridiculously slow).
Thanks AbstraKt, money is not really the issue so I think I will go for the 670 based on what you said which has validated many things I've heard in my research. It's nice to know that the extra 80 or so dollars will be worth the investment so thanks again.
