GTX Titan Overclocking Problems

I have a GTX Titan. I am running one 1440p monitor and it performs great, but I want to get some more out of it. I have tried to overclock it but have failed everytime. I have tried to overclock it several times with different overclocking programs (MSI Afterburner, Precicion X, even GPU Tweak) but it just never works.

I manage to run a game for about 5 minutes before it crashes and I have to restart the computer to run it again. Why does this happen? I have followed this guide on how to overclock: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_titan_overclock_guide,2.html

  • I set the power target to 104%.
  • Priority set to Temperature.
  • Temperature target set to 90C.
  • GPU Clock +165 MHz.
  • Memmory Clock + 120 MHz.

I use the latest drivers of course.

Use this tutorial, you can't boost your clock that much in one take, overclocking takes time in order to reach the maximum stability(which you don't have), safest temperature and highest speeds.

Just because someone uses the same GPU as you and got a goopd OC, Does not mean you will get the same.

Start off with +35 on the core and +100 of the Memory. Run it for half an hour and watch for artifacts and crashing.

Now add ether 25 to the Memory or 35 to the core and keep doing so untill you see artifacts or it crashes after you stress test it. Stick with ether memory or the core untill you reach its max and then back off 35 or 25 depending on memory or core.

The Titan does overclock well in some cases. Not like a 780 but it can hit 1.1 on the core on the rare occasion. Keep an eye on your TDP or Power consumption. If it hits 104%, You have reached its max for that bios. That is the main issue with the Titan is it is a thirstier card than the 780 yet has the same limit. You can only really overclock the Titan well if you have a custom Bios and a water block.

You should take a day out of your schedule for overclocking. I have been overclocking for years but im still learning and I still spend a good 5 hours when overclocking to its max.

Just take your time and dont rush it.

Thanks, I am going to try to overclock as you have suggested on saturday or sunday when I have time.

Crank that power target all the way up.

What about the temperature target? Doesn't that follow the power target?

I have tried been trying to overclock and I have used Unigine Heaven, is that good for stress testing?

It worked fine with +140MHz Core Clock and 100MHz Memmory Clock. On 175MHz Core Clock it crashed. I think +140Mhz is max for the Core Clock, now it is time to test the memmory.

Best program that I have found, especially since it loops.

Unigine or Kombustor work great for overclocking. I have it run windowed while I tweak settings. If I get a crash I can usually back off the clocks a bit and save it before I have to reboot it.
