GTX 980 sli vs GTX 970 sli vs R9 290x CF vs R9 295x2

Hello everyone. In was wondering which graphics card configuration would pair best with an i7 4790k. Also, please don't be mean about me comparing this stuff. I'm very new to PC gaming. Productivity is also important to me too with these since I'll be using Vocaloid, Cubase, Piapro, and MMD in addition to a lot of triple A titles.

Thanks in advance.

slowest to fastest

sli 970

cf 290x

sli 980

295x2

However, I would only get 2x r9 290s (8GB edition) or 2 980s because the what you get for your money is far better.

Okay! Thank you so much for your help.

If you´re into music production and you got the money, get 970 or 980 strix (look at Logans review). The cooler is extremely quiet - actually just turns on at a certain heat-threshold, wich could be very interesting from noise reduction perspective.

Cheers!

I would get the 295x2 , the water cooler is perfect .

290x xfire will get very hot , so I would only go for that if you have good cooling

980sli is quiet but amazingly expensive .

just had to say, love your profile picture and the band ;)

I'd say actually go for 970's in sli, 970 Strix's. They are about that of a 290x, but can be overclocked to be even faster and run much cooler than 290x's for nearly the same price.

I was just gonna get a second 290, but with how much faster 2x 970's are than 2x 290's, I might just wait and grab 2 390's whenever those come out. the 290/290x got undermined quite fast by the 900 series :/

The r9 295x2 is just two 290's on the same pcb overclocked slightly sharing 8gigs of vram. 2 standalone 290's or if you can get a good deal like i did 290x's in xfire would beat it. 2 980's in sli really would the absolute best case though. If you can afford it and even harder justify the expense. The aio on the 295x2 is far from perfect though as its two asetek aio units stitched together and linked to a single 120 rad. It was implemented because thats probably the only way that setup could work considering that Hawaii architecture/AMD in general run HAWT. For the money though sli 970's or 290's(290x's if the price is right) would be the most bang for the buck.
