Ok. I've been waiting a while for a new gpu. I was about to bite either the gtx 1070 or wait for the polaris side of things. However my friend is selling his 980 for £200 which i thought was very good. I game at 1080p on an ultrawide 25inch monitor. Should i jump on his deal or hold out and see whats what?

regardless if you only see yourself playing 1080 for the near future then definely grab this, even now £200 is a bargin, they generally in the UK used are looking at around £250
No point waiting for promised cards if you only play at 1080 at the moment
Just wait... Wait to see what 1070 will do, wait for Polaris, because Polaris is said to stir things up quite a bit price wise.
Just wait. The rumor is AMD will release 980 performing card for around 200 pounds. And then you may be able to get second hand 980 for way less...
Sorry forgot to say yes its reference. Which would suit me as it would be going into a silverstone sg13 itx case. Would there be issues with only 4gb onboard?
Yeah heat exiting directly out the rear expansion slots would be ideal, no at the moment 4gb is plenty, I run GTA 1440p at max settings with super resolution to the max and still only use 5.2GB so at 1080 4gb is still "where it is at"
psycho_666 is right that there are lots of cards coming, but honestly if your happy at your resolution then you dont need the latest card at a premium price, a 980 will be serviceable for a few years to come :)
My point was, that when the new cards come out there will be cheaper 980s... The idea was, that for the same price he can get more performance, or get the same performance for lower price.
If you have the GPU for 250 new, second hand will come down to 150 or less...

If the rumors are true, AMD may have similar performance to 980 GPU for 300$... Which is around 200 pounds.
EDIT: My point is, there will be price drops, and we don't know yet what price drops there will be. If not, 980 will still be there. And my waiting means for the AMD reveal in less than a week. Then we will have more information.

Yeah, Computex. I think they hold an event on 28-th or 29-th. Right before computex. This is why Nvidia releases 1080 on 27-th. They want to be first.
But from the rumors - 28-th - reveal, computex - availability... Basically, 1-st June should be in stores.
If AMD are revealing very soon i can probably wait. I hope im not gutted when he sells the card sooner than later. Reading your posts is making me rule with my head. Play it cool!
haha, well on Ebay I have seen some I was watching go between £238-255, I think It will take a week or two for online traders to reflect the price reductions,

At £200 it's a bargain IMO. After the 1080 is released the 980ti won't go quite that low. A 980 is just under £400 new atm or around £350 used.
Notice, how the second press release says "Polaris UPDATES". Meaning they should give some official information before Computex, and bring updates, my guess pricing and availability on the Computex event.
