The 780 being $50 cheaper than the 290x makes me think that 290x is no longer good value; at least until companies began releasing cards with custom coolers.
As for the 280x, it's still $30 cheaper than the 770; I think that the 770 will be the far better choice now, unless the user plans to overclock.
i think it's good and everyone (nvidia, amd) made the right price decisions. 780 being 50 dollar less is good cause it doesnt perform as well at STOCK SETTINGS as the 290x, so right now the 780, and 290 (minus x) will be battling for that performance/price position. also at this point the 780 is an older card compared to 290x so the 50 dollar less price makes sense.
so right now you pay that extra dough for nvidia feature and better power effiency and better diver support. but amd is quickly catching up so we'll see, also the 3rd party card makers will future muddle these price points so lots of research and waiting ahead for people who plan to buy new graphics cards.
I hope Mantle and after-market coolers succeed, and very soon.
I have been thinking of buying a nice video card recently and I'm looking at this emerging tug of war with glee! If AMD can make the next step up then this competition will have a lot of momentum.
