Gtx 760 or R9 280X

Would just like a bit of advice if that's OK.  I've been using the site for a while but this is the first time I've needed help.

I'm looking to upgrade and did decide on the Asus gtx 760 for £185 but have seen an R9 280X for £200 here

http://m.novatech.co.uk/products/components/amdradeongraphicscards/amdr9280xseries/vxr9280x3gbd5-2dhev2.html

Which is better value?  And is a 530W PSU enough to power the 280x as I've seen conflicting answers on wether it needs to be 500 or 750?

Thanks

530W will be plenty for either card. In all reality you don't need more than 600W unless you are using Xfire or SLI.

The 280x will be much faster than the 760 and for that price it is a steal. I'd def buy that over the 760.

R9 280x is a no brainer but my only reservations would be the manufacturer of that model.

VTX3D is bacily a cheaper vershon brand from Powercolour.

The Asus GTX 760 has a faster core clock, boost clock and memory clock.

Also while you should be fine with 530W, the specs for the R9 you have linked says minimum 750W.

I have a GTX 760 and am quite happy with it.

My OCed 650Ti has a faster clock speed than my 780. Just because it is a bigger number doesn't mean it is better.

The minimum 750W is BS. They always put a really high number. It doesn't mean anything. A system with that card will prob only pull around 450W max.

Bbbbbutttt. nVidia... is so much bettter...

Dude, you were kidding about the 760 being better than the 280x right?

............

RIGHT???

The r9 280x is more comparable to a GTX 770. The 770 and 280x tie on a lot of things.

Thanks for the helpful discussion,  I'm going to go with a 760,  not sure which one yet but I'd rather get a good quality 760 than a  bottom range 280x .

you are mad, that's it. the only reason to get a 760 would be if you were someone who's just starting with linux....

I also use avid media composer which recommends Nvidia and its not guaranteed the AMD card will work,  I don't fancy the gamble.

"YES, Avid can run with GeForces, even with AMD/ATI or Intel video." - Taken from their forum. Just FYI.

The 760 is inferior to the 280X. at the same price it is a no brainer.
