Hello, I've recently gotten on gaming, more so pc gaming. I've been playing games with low graphic requirements (old psone area, and indi games). I would like to buy a dedicated graphics card, so I can play games with higher requirements.
My current PC (which I had since before I started playing games) has a i5-3330 (3.0 GHz), with 8gb (1600MHz) ram. I did make sure that the motherboard had a PCI-e slot, and that the case had expansion slots for the graphics card. I'm not looking to run the newest games at 4k and 60 frames for the next 20 years. I just want to be able to play recent games without it lagging because it's running at like 2 frames per second with the lowest settings.
I've thought about the GTX 750ti because I wouldn't need to upgrade my power supply, and it's pretty cheap compared to some of the other graphic cards. . . But I have some doubts. Is this a good match for my PC? Should I just upgrade my PSU while I'm on it, and get a different GPU? I want something that I wouldn't have to upgrade until I need to upgrade my CPU and (by extension) my motherboard (and possibly ram, depending on whatever the requirements of future games are gong to be).
Well, the 750 Ti is great for the sole reason that it consumes very little power and as such doesn't need a 6- or 8-pin pci-e power cable. In terms of price to performance, there are better cards, namely the R7 265. Of course, that may or may not require a PSU upgrade. Your i5 can handle just about every graphics card currently available, except perhaps some ridiculous multi-card setups that you don't seem to be interested in.
What exactly is the power supply you have? It would be easier to determine whether you'd need a power supply upgrade or not. Also, what is your budget?
It's the stander 300watt. I was already expecting to upgrade my PSU before finding the 750 series, so it's no big deal. For my budget I was expecting to spend $200-$400, but I could go a bit higher if necessary. As much, or cheaper, than buying a next gen console is pretty much my goal.
You can easily fit a good power supply and graphics in for that budget.
That said, the 750 Ti may be more than enough for the games you want to play. What games specifically are you wanting to play? Also, what is your screen resolution.
For now mostly sequels to older games I've played that seem interesting: Deus Ex Human Revolution, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, and Guild Wars (it looks interesting, and a couple of my friends play it). Also maybe Bioshock Infinite, Titanfall, Battlefield, Crisis and any other games that happen to catch my interest, or are recommended by friends, so we can play together.
My monitor's resolution is native 1600 x 900 (it came as a combo with my PC).
Well seeing as you have what would be considered a relatively low resolution now (what with 1440p becoming more affordable and the advent of 4k). A 750 Ti would probably be able to play the more demanding games you mentioned (Battlefield and Crysis) on at least high, depending on how many frames per second you're looking to get.
Here's some benchmarks for the 750 Ti: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1130
Based off of your lower resolution and the fact that you wouldn't mind running at medium settings, I think the 750 Ti would be great for you.
Well, if your budget can go up to $400 then you can get a Corsair RM 650, for a $100, and then get a r9 280x to go with it then your golden. the 280x kicks-ass
