GTX 750 ti or GTX 960

So as the title says which one?

Im building my first rig and was wondering if i should go for the ASUS STRIX GTX 750 Ti or the STRIX GTX 960???

Oorrrrrrr wait for the GTX 1000 series. Is that too long of a wait?

i think it would be helpful to know why you're debating on which to get as a 960 is obviously better.

The GTX 960 will be a better performing card in just about every regard other than power consumption, and that's negligible in 99.9% of cases.

Having said that, have you looked into the R7 380? Similar price and performance as the GTX 960, just Red Team rather than Green Team.

If you're willing to spend more on a 960, i would recommend you pick up a R9 380. It's faster than both the 960 and the 750ti and it's about the same or cheaper than a 960.

i agree that the 380 is a better choice over the 960... and id opt for the 4gb version
750ti is more of a card aimed at people playing mmorpgs and some of last gens titles on the side.

Well at the moment i have a build with an i3 4160 ($600 build) and so i was considering the GTX 750 TI from asus (their strix series)

I play a lot of BF3 and CSGO and planning on getting a couple more demanding games.

But i have to say so myself that i am a bit of a Nvidea fanboy but dont mind AMD. I dont particularly like them either just cos i dont thibk their build quality is that great. And heating issues...

Doesnt the r9 380 have a lower clock speed than the gtx 960?? Or is it more about the 256 bus compared to the 128 bus?

it doesn't matter? we're talking about cards with two totally different architectures, in other words, a titan x a 300mhz will slaughter a 750ti at 1000mhz it's just how it works chips are different comparing clock speeds and such will do you no good.

based on what? no offense but it just sounds like you're repeating what you've heard without any research.
fyi the titan x runs over 100c with a stock cooler if you think AMD is the only one with hot cards.
my personal 980ti runs 88c

The R9 300 series has better DX 12 performance and there are a lot of tests to show that.

GPU boss has a good comparison but I would look around at some vids like over at JayzTwoCents.

Jayz

heres a video showing 960 vs 380 benchmarks. the 380 wins in all of them even in games with nvidia gameworks it still wins. (the numbers on the right are average fps)

For this, from a price stand point; 750ti is $100 and the 960 is $200
you could probably get more bang for you buck if you rode team red: 7970s are about $150 you could probably find a used 290(x) for $200
now if you stick with team green: maybe aim for a used upper end 700 series like the 770 maybe even a 780 and stay in that price range
you could also wait and save more money to dump into the gpu and swing a 970 or one of the higher end r9 300s
im just laying options out im personally running a 7970 and its rocking through most if not all games at high settings

My 380 nitro has not gotten over 59 at stock clock and I live in eastern Texas.

on the low-mid range spectrum, amd is the way to go except for the 950 beating the 370 (360 beats 750ti, 380 beats 960)

Yea i am. Sorry i haven't done much research myself which is why i was trying to get some information of off this forum.

There are loads of guys atm arguing about which is better. But judging by what you guys have said it seems as though AMD have slightly pulled ahead this year with their cards.

Or am i wrong?

Well the GTX 950 is around about the same price as the GTX 750ti. So im slightly leaning towards that now.

The r9 380 is a bit high in price for me but if it going to future proof my rig for a couple of years then i dont mind spending it.

My build btw is

Intel Core I3-4160
Asus Z97M - Plus (M-ATX)
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB
Cooler Master G550W
Bitfenix Prodigy M

And the GPU im deciding now.
Is the R7 370 any good???

it boils down to how much money you want to spend but heres what i know

360>750ti
950>370
380>960
390>970

Around about $200 is what im willing to spend but thank you for that info! :)

4g 380 is only $190 and it has $20 in rebate

Both the R9 380 and GTX 960 are good cards. They're both rather efficient as well. R9 380 is more powerful by a slight margin. so if they're the same price I'd just go with a well-reviewed R9 380.

well both of the cards are a bit over my budget.

Im now contemplating on either sticking with an ASUS STRIX GTX 750 Ti or a STRIX GTX 950

Then definitely go with a GTX 950. Stronger card in every way.
