Gtx 680 vs Gtx 770

Hey so for my upcoming build I'm looking at going into the $300-$400 price range and I saw that the Gtx 680 is now $330 from newegg and I'm wondering if its worth spending $50-$60 more to get a Gtx 770? Also if there's a good alternative for less then $300 I'd really like to know. Thanks :)

You could pick up the AMD equivalent for cheaper. I know you're probably set on Nvidia, but it is worth saying.

A $200 7950 (with a good cooler) can overclock and get the same FPS performance as an overcloked 680 or an overclocked 770. Maybe look for a 280x? The additional Vram will be advantageous.

I'm not really set on NVIDIA but I do prefer them, although my uncle who's helping me with the build is an AMD fan. About the Vram, will more than 2gb be of any help on a signal 1080p 60hz display?

i would only pay 280 for 680gtx and $330 for 770gtx the 280x is really the way to for about 300 to 320.

2Gb is absolutely fine. Mods will eat it up pretty quickly. It depends what games you play? If you run mods? AMD and Nvidia trade blows in different games.

I would be playing BF4, Arma, and maybe Cod Ghosts and not very many mods in the other games I would try.

Well, the biggest gain to be had, in those given titles, is AMD + BF4. Mantle will launch nearer the end of the year. Supposed to give a really big boost to AMD cards. If you can pick up a 280x cheaper than the other options, it would be a really strong choice. Any of the above cards will be fine. If you settle for Nvidia, the 770 and 680 are very similar. I would lean to the 770, providing it wasn't much more expensive than the 680. It's probably not worth the extra $50, in all honesty.

My personal choice would be a 280x at 1080p. I'm not AMD bias. I use a 780 at 1440p. AMD are more bang for buck, in most instances.

I know mantle is supposed to help a lot for AMD but I am looking at retrofitting a gsync card to my monitor or getting a gsync monitor next year, would that make lean towards NVIDIA?

It's your personal preference. Personally, I am not too fussed about G sync.

Honestly for the price point i wouldn't go for neither of them. I'm not against Nvidia and I'm not an AMD fanboy but as of now the R9 280X is the best "bang for the buck" graphics card.

I would get this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161441

It has a great cooler and those 3gbs will go a long way for the upcoming games.

That cooler always pushes a decent overclock. Nice to see it return on the R9 cards.

are they not the same chip? or is that the gtx 760?

Same chip, faster Vram on the 7xx. And GPU boost 2.0

If you're in the 400$ range, AMD might price the r9 290 non-x at 400$ (I hope)
