Gtx 670 vs hd7950?

Hi guys,

I'm looking at upgrading my hd4850 cause it basically fries its self from tomb raider at like 120*C..

Today it looks like there's been some price cuts on the 670 (in the UK).. so this is the card im looking at, its about the same price as the cheapest hd7950's I can find, should I go for this or a hd7950? I hear that the directCU II cooling is good, so that's a bonus.

Sorry for such a bog standard post but I haven't upgraded for a long time and haven't kept upto date with benchmarks etc etc.

Any opinions will be apreciated !!

The 7950 is the higher performing card, in most instances. However, it does come down to prices. To purchase a 7950, you do need to choose one with a good aftermarket cooler, like the ASUS directCUii.

I wouldn't purchase the cheapest 7950 you can find, it won't have any real value in overclocking. So, in this case, I would recommend the 670. That's a really good price, and a really good cooler. The 670 does compare to the 7950, and it will beat it in some games.

Brilliant!! I've ordered it, I think like you say the cooler is definetly the deal maker.

Yeah, it would probably be around another £60 for a good 7950 like the MSI Twin Frozr or His Iceq x2. Money saved is a good thing.
