Im upgrading my pc this chistmas after my family won £2600 (about $3000) on the lottery, were spending £1000 on bills and the remaining £1600 is shared between me, my sister and my parents so we get £400 each (+ money i get from other family members) so i get around £560, what nvidia graphics card should i get, im switching between xbox and pc and im not sure whether or not i will prefer pc over xbox, taking all this into accound, what should i get? im thinking a gtx 670ftw from evga or a 680ftw (second variation, fans rather than a blower), bearing in mind i need some games too. Thanks for any answers
ill leave some other information you might want to base your opinion:
i5 3570K overclocked @ 4.0 Ghz. Asus p8z77-v motherboard. 750W 80+ bronze psu
edit: i thinking of getting the evga gtx680 ftw or the msi gtx680 Lightning
If you are hell bent on going the Nvidia route then I would personally get the 670 and save the extra money and/or reinvest it into my computer or something else you like. The 670 is 5-10% performance decrease from the 680 and with a solid overclock the 670 could perform like a stock 680. The other route you could go is buying a 7970 and get a better performance than the 670 for <=price(depending what brand).
Definitely the GTX 670. The extra cash you're paying for a 680 is not worth it in mine, and many others' opinion. It's easily clocked up to 680 performance if you get any form of respectable cooler and you save $100. Purely win in your situation.
670ftw. SAVE YOUR $$$ i run a evga 660ftw and does more than i asked for when i oc'd it just a tiny bit.
but, for how much longer?
someday when 680 n 690 pricing goes down lol
If you aren't sure about switching yet, try to figure out what pc offers that console doesn't, and if that is something that would make this kind of purchase worth it to you; nothing worse than blowing all this money for nothing. On the gpu, I have to support OcultAssasin's 7970 recommendation, the 7970 with a non-stock cooler is the same price as some 670's right now, and equal if not faster than a 680. If you are starting from scratch, and need a monitor, os, and the whole deal, I'd go for a 670 or 7950, and put the extra toward what you need.
Thanks for all the advice guys, the reason i wanted Nvidia is because i have done a lot more research into nvidia than amd and i would feel more comfortable with an nvidia card for this reason, although ill check out the 7970. the 680 prices dropped here in the uk recently and a stock 680 costs £350 (£50 less than a few months ago) which is why i was wondering whether to get one. In response to iron thunder: Im not too sure at the moment about it, i mean, i've heard that the pc communtity is much more mature (rather than having 8 year olds yelling down the mic, which happen in atleast 1 in every 3 games i play on xbox) and you can have much bigger game lobbys in games like battlefield, as well as the amazing graphics, im just not too sure whether to spend the money on a graphics card. I already have my rig set up (i just need the graphics card, i can run some games on low with integrated) and i recently bought a 25 inch asus monitor.
