in msi afterburner it says im using a little over 1000 mb of memory usage, the problem is i only have a 1 gig card..
When playing black ops or borderlands 2 it jumps between 30 and 60 fps, is this because the memory is full? While playing black ops 2 today in certain areas it would just drop to 30 fps, otherwise it would just stick to 60.
ive read online that you need a massive resolution to fill one gig but im doubting that because of whats happening. at 1920 x 1080 on high settings it happens alot, i lowered it to 1440 x 900 and it happens every now and then but only if i have the settings really high.
is this because im filling all the ram or do you think there is another issue?
Well im not to sure, but 1gb doesnt mean exactly 1000mb its (i am probaly wrong) 1024mb so it could be that your memeory is all being used and maybe you need to consider lowering the quality a tad to stop these errors. Google is a powerful tool and will probaly provide an answer on why its happening and how to fix it
Teksyndicate is probaly gunna be more accurate. Wait till somebody smarter than me answers basically :)
It is because of your limited graphics memory, easiest way to fix your issue is to drop texture quality. I'd read through this literature, it'll tell you what eats up graphicss memory and what doesn't.
yeah you vram is filled up, i play games on a 2gig card and i game on 1280x1024 monitor so i play everthing maxed, and i pass the 1 gig mark on the most intensive games i have. turn off windows graphics and see how that pans out (like make it look like win95) also turn of as many background apps as possible, but be carefull not to turn something off like exeplorer.exe. dont exepect the earth from this, but this is pretty much all you can do other making sure your os is to date, your game latest patch, and making sure gpu is on the latest drivers and finaly buying a beter gpu.
oh and make sure in the nvidia control panel that ambient oclusion is off, anti-stropic filtering is app controled or off, also AA as app controled or off,AA transpanrency too off, fxaa to on, also multi gpu/mixed display performance is set to single display, power management to maximum perfomance, texture filtering-negative lod bias to allow.
sooo yeah do all this and see how it goes, also anything you wanna know about the nvidia control panel just ask
thanks guys! ive pretty much switched to 1440 x 900 because at 1920 x 1080 it just happened way to much. i was planning on buying a 2gb gtx 660 in the future any ways but i will try all the stuff recommended and see what makes the biggest difference.
install MSI after burner and scroll down to memory usage, you can do the same with GPU-z if its not over 900MB then its not being bottlenecked by the memory SIZE, but by something else such as the bandwith or strength of the card
in borderlands 2 walking around sactuary at 1440 x 900 on maxed setting, 16x aa and high textures the card used 415mb. lowering aa to nothing and results were the same. lowering the textures it barely hit 300 mb. im going to try black ops 2 zombies because that's where i get most of the trouble.
then the problem lies in that the card just isn't fast enough as in the strength of its cores not amount of ram, it could be ram bandwidth too but if i its only like 300-400 then I doubt its the ram speed
oh sorry i forgot to metion it stayed at 60 fps in borderlands 2. there was no sudden fps drop. now after playing black ops 2 on high settings it was at 900+ mb all the time. then i lowered the feild of view to medium as well as shadows. and that brought it down to 700 mb. again it stuck right at 60 fps.
