Gtx 640 for physX only?

i have got a r9 270x and wondering about getting a gtx640 for physX only. will this work?

thinking of getting it because i like pretty graphics in games such as Borderlands 2 and Planet Side

pc specs:

amd fx6300

m5A99X EVO R2.0

R9 270x Direct CUII

corsair cx500

You would be having more problems than joy trying to get that to work. Not to say it is impossible, but hardly work the stress.

It would be far and away too much of a pain in the ass getting it to work for relatively little benefit.

I'm not sure about BL, I thought those games were terrible so I didn't play them much, but most of the 10 games that use PhysX render it on the CPU anyway so as long as your chip osnr anemic it should be fine.

Nvidia disallows using seperate PhysX cards when your main GPU is an AMD card.  There are hacks around it, but PhysX is probably not worth the extra effort of doing so.

thanks for the help guys, i guess getting PhysX ain't that worth it for the troubles even though i like pretty graphics in gaming

If anything blame Nvidia for making GPU accelerated PhysX proprietary to their cards.  It looks awesome, but if you're not willing to pony up and buy an Nvidia card it's easier to just live without it, not to mention it's literally the only thing in Borderlands 2 that is capable of putting your GPU on it's knees, PhysX high in that game is ridiculous.
