I have tried been able to get the file for this game before from rockstar usa. But I am not able to find the file any more and I need it to install the game. This is truly the biggest pains in my ass I have ever had to deal with. this is what the error says. File: E:\data2.cab
Error: data error (cyclic redundancy check)
You using official DVD?
Its seams it's damaged or just dirty.
Or you DVD player is dirty.
Find another installation method and please try a trustworthy one ;)
Or i never tried it but Email Rockstar that you got a broken DVD and maybe they give you a free digital version. I don't know how Rockstars deals with this.
They don't. The dvd drive is in good clean condition. And the cd has no scratches on it what so ever. I got it to work last time by just downloading the file patch and it worked fine. They had the file patch. But removed it when they did that stupid securom crap. Please if anyone knows of a legit safe source where I can get this file. I would really appreciate it. As it has been the vain of me since 2011.
Just pony up the $5 and get it on Steam. Then you can re-download it as much as you want, whenever you want.
It's a god dam matter of principle. And I am gonna copy the data2.cab files just so I have a patch for the cd.
And it's a god damn patch file which I never had to pay for either.
I thought this was why we had the fucking internet. And I cannot get a fucking patch file. Are you fucking kidding me?
How big was that data2.cab file again?
I think I still have a GTA:SA v1.0 DVD in my closet. If the file is a reasonable size, I could probably install the game on my PC, extract the file and put it in my Dropbox.
EDIT : found my DVD, installing it now.
The Steam version is different from the original PC title.
Rockstar ported the mobile version to PC a couple of years ago, replacing it on Steam.
I hear you can get it on pirate bay. But it's an old file. So that is a general risk.
You legally own the Disc and have proof of purchase. just torrent the Iso.
If you have moral issues, you are getting a legal backup technically and depends on where you live.
Just check the MD5 Hash and you should be safe man.
hmm ... this is a bit of a bother. The data2.cab file is on the DVD itself but nowhere on the installed game. It's a 1.49GB file.
I can put that in my dropbox, but you'll need to put it on a clean DVD (or .iso file) together with the rest of your current DVD.
Uploading will take several hours though, I only have around 3.5Mbps upload right now (should have 5, which still isn't much).
I have uverse 3gb. And a dvd drive with recordable dvd roms let's do this.
Unless the broken data 2 cab is rockstars first form of anti piracy.
Hey I never tried signing into rockstar before I installed. I wonder if that will have anything to do with it.
Nah, that shouldn't be a problem. It's not like we're sharing cracked .exe files or keygens.
Uploading right now. Dropbox estimates it'll take "1 hour" (which could mean anything up to 1h59).
Be sure to check the file's integrity after downloading it.

Wait it said I must have administrator privileges to play the game. I have not given my account administrator privileges yet.
Forget it. It's starting to give me a headache. I forgot how much of a migraine headache it gave me. I am sorry for bothering you. But Thank you for the help. I rather just pay the 5$ and save myself the headache.
Copy your DVD's data2.cab file to your HDD/SSD and do a hash check on it there. Follow the link in my last post if you don't have a checksum utility yet.
If the checksum matches mine, your file (and hence your install) is okay. If it doesn't match, your file is corrupted.
1 flipped bit is all it takes to corrupt a file beyond recognition and get CRC errors.
EDIT : "1 hour left"
I am trying to install the files on other computer.
This is always like a mad science experiment.
