So I am stuck with my laptop. Its no true gaming laptop, Running these specs
i7 2820QM CPU
GT 540m GPU
8Gb's of ram
1080p 240Hz Inbuilt monitor

With and without a modest GPU overclock (672 to 721), I get a terrible stuttering every few seconds. It then decides it needs to catch up and it displays correctly again for 1-2 seconds before lag and delay sets in again. This hapens in some games but not others. For example I can play Track Mania or League of legends fine but Bioshock, Modern Warfare 3, Trials and Euro truck simulator all have the explained issue.
Now there is no way its an overheating issue. Both the GPU and CPU are well under 60 degrees and they arnt being throatled. I am completly lost as to what is causing this.
I aim to build a new machine as my old one was left overseas but for now while I desperatly hunt for a job im stuck with this laptop. I am getting sick of buying games and not being able to play them because my laptop decides to spazz.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I have the same GPU in my laptop, and it is a rather weak one, so you cant really play games highend games like battlefield 3, far cry 3 or well, anything that looks fancy.
League of Legends and Trackmania are both very well optimised games, and work. Same goes for World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2.
Modern FPS shootes dont seem to work well on any laptop, because you actually need high fps to play them properly, in strategy and racing games, the framerate and delay wont bother you so much, and they usually dont have high end particle effects what stress the hell out of your gpu.
Heres a chart, and you can see that the 540M is rather down in the list.

The GPU is capable of playing these games. When functioning normly it has a perfectly reasonable FPS. The issue isnt about how powerful the GPU is. It is about the stability. There are games I can play on Intel HD 4000 graphics yet cant with a GT 540m. I cant play some games that are so old, My phone could play them. Infact in some cases I have.
The FPS in a game will happkily be at 70+, Drop down to 2 for 3 seconds and pop back up to 70. Thats the problem. Read the post. I am not inept, I have built gaming systems for a living and im competent in 3D modeling and game development.
When Bioshock Infinitie works perfectly fine yet Bioshock 1 and many other games dont, Its not GPU power thats the problem.
Here is a video deminstraiting the problem. I will do one in a game thats worse effected aswell. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=podSACr19WU&feature=youtu.be
This issue also appears when watching youtube videos and anything else that uses the GPU.
check to see if your dpc latency is unusually high spike around the 500-1000+ mark will see you drop a fram here and there. usually just a chipset driver issue if it is.
I am getting recordings of about 400-36000, I assume that may be the issue however, Removing all USB devices hasnt worked and I have tried many different graphics drivers with the same issues. Plus it dosent seem to match up with the onscreen stuttering.
Disabling Bluetooth and ethernet ports seems to have made games playable but still getting spikes up to 2000
just need a gpu that ain't shit yo!
problem solve your welcome!:)
jk
but yeah its pretty weak graphics card. Also guessing you pirated all thos games. Since you should have stop buying games once the first few didn't work.

I have tested in linux and the GPU is 100% fine. I really dont need people telling me that I should expect that from the GPU because it is not the GPU that is the problem. My mate can run these games with his 410m GPU. Also the comment on piracy is not needed. I own all these games. They are just impuls buys/used to more powerful system. If you dont have anything worth sharing, dont say anything. I dont want to have to repeate myself with stating that the GPU is powerful enough.
Update, Got my DPC to under 300, Better in some games however many others fluctuate still.
This is me trying to play Qube with this issue. It shows the problem better If that helps...
