Hey everyone I was looking to get a new CPU for my rig and want something really good value without sacraficing performance mobo has the Z77 chipset and socket LGA 1155. also looking for a new waterblock if you have any recomendations.
I mean, if you're gaming, the i5 3570k is your thing. If you have a microcenter near you, the i7 3770k is only about $30 more. So it depends on your situation.
thanks for the tip :)
you want high end on the socket 1155, then you want the i7 3770K (but its still midrange)
The 3770k is more than just midrange, MisteryAngle. It is quite high end :)
As for waterblocks, go with a Koolance 380i - it's the best thermally performing waterblock on the market, and it looks fantastic.
i know but intel lanced the 1155 platform as midrange and theire X79 platform with hexacore as theire highend platform, but that are just names ☺ x79 3820 As semi highend im im right ☺ but that was an offtopic joke ofc :P
Because you could get a 3930k for that price.
This is true
Intel labels their 1155 platform as "mainstream" simply because the processors don't cost $500 a pop and more people are going to be able to afford them. Their 2011 platform is labeled as an enthuisiast platform because it's the best stuff you're going to get, but you're going to have to shell out some cash in order to pick up a 2011 CPU.
Also, the 3770K should actually perform better than the 3820.
3570k and XSPC Razor, i have a 3570K at 4.6ghz right now with a Hyper 212 Evo and it chomps on anything i throw at it.
Not to mention that the i7's and Xeons are designed for two completely different work loads. The i7 is vastly better than a Xeon for a normal desktop. Not to mention that you can't overclock the Xeons.
I am joining the 3570k team. I got mine on air with a 4.5 GH overclock. It peaks at 62 when stress testing it. You only need a waterblock if you are going over 4.6. I got a mid grade cpu cooler (deepcool gamerstorm) with 2 noctua NF-F12's in push pool. I got the whole setup for $70 and its very quiet and keeps it cool.. so quiet, cool, and cheaper than waterblocks...
The i5-3570k is great for around $200. You can always go for the i7-3770k, but you'll only get a minor performance boost in the gamign section for an extra $100.
I'm going to have to agree with everyone here. Go with the 3570K.
If you have a micro center near you, it should be nearly $100 cheaper than anywhere else. The same goes for the 3770K, so if you want to spend around the same amount of money as you would get the 3570K everywhere else, then you could get a 3770K. Either that or you could just save a good amount of money on the 3570K and throw the rest of the money into a different part of the build.
If you still need a motherboard, make sure to pick one up at microcenter as well if you have one near you. Most of the time they'll take $50 off the motherboard if you buy a compatible CPU as well.
The waterblock is to replace an old one so the system is already in place. atm I have an Intel® Core™ i7-2600 CPU eight core OC'd to 4.4Ghz
how old is your water loop and what block are you using now?
The waterblock it's replacing is an doesn't fit my new mobo and the cpu and ram is being borrowed from another computer of mine so if the differance wont be very noticable (mainly for gaming) I'll probably just get a cheaper cpu for the other one. I plan to overclock if that makes any Difference.
ATM i am using a crappr air cooler i scavanged off another computer
I would definitely try going to an electronics stores such as Fry's to try and haggle prices. I recently bought a 3770k for $250 there. It might have been because the guy I talked to was a pretty cool guy. Plus, I bought my entire rig at the same time.
