Graphics Card Decision

Hi, My Current pc setup is as follows

Cpu - AMD Phenom II X6 1090T

GPU - AMD Radeon 6870 2GB

Motherboard - MSI 990FXA-GD65

Ram - 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 800MHz

Hard Drives/SSD - 238GB PLEXTOR PX-256M5Pro SATA Disk Device (SSD)

932GB Western Digital WDC WD10 EARX-00N0YB0 SATA Disk Device

Im looking at upgrading my GPU, I was looking at a 770 but i am undecided on whether to get a 2gb or 4gb version, I currently have 2 monitors at 1080p. I was wondering what you guys think and what one i should get out the two?

Forgot to mention my Power Supply is a 750w corsair

I personally have no idea why 4GB would be needed for a non-eyefinty/surround setup.

If I may be so bold:

If someone reaches 4GB texture usage without eyefinty/surround setup, please give the name of the game developer. I personally want to congratulate him on making the most bloated textures on the face of the planet.

Maybe someone could update me for 1440p texture usage, but at 1080p, no. I am convinced 2GB is enough.

Until I stand corrected.

I was just wondering this due to me having two monitors and not knowing if the vram needed to be higher, Thank you for your help

Unless you are gaming on both screens (which you shouldn't) 2GB VRAM should be plenty.

Im not, Thank you for your help

Why not go for Radeon?

Not sure, Doesnt the 770 destroy  the latest radeon?

Probably, but if you have a AMD CPU, it typically works better with a Radeon HD GPU.

I'd still prefer to pay the little extra to get that performance boost

That's rubbish, everyone who knows shizz about this, denies this. (Logan, Linus etc.)

if you are talking about the latest radeon, the 770 doesnt exactly win (7990. huhuh.)

the 770 is a whopping 3% faster than the 7970, but has better frametimes.

Excuse me for using a local techblog, tomshardware and ananastech are ... Not so Good.

My 7870 has 2048mb of vram. When I am playing crysis 2 with the high-res textures and everything maxed out at 1080p, I have broken the 2048mb a few times and it hovers around 2000mb of usage per msi afterburner. So 3gb of vram is probably enough these days, but if you can get more, you can make your card more "future proof" for future games.

I would get an HIS Iceqx2 7970ghz, and crank it up as high as you can go (best 7950/7970 cooler in my opinion and stand by this after researching many coolers for a long time)

And skyrim with enough mods can cripple titans in 4 way sli at 1080p

I would take 3gb 384bit over 4gb 256bit in a card

And the 7970 beats the 770 if you buy a good 7970 like the Asus Matrix, His Iceqx2, sapphire VaporX, and other great models (I cannot add XFX for quality issues or Gigabyte for potential voltage locking

If you dont want to overclock at all, I would then pick up a $450 4gb EVGA ACX 770, 4gb in a card is still worth it for skyrim and futureproofing in my opinion
