GPU upgrade

I currently have a evga 780 SC. Is it worth the upgrade to get a 980ti classified or 980ti SC? I play my games @ 1440p so I should definitely see the performance difference.

In my opinion, and others hold this, nvidia has been screwing up the gpu industry the last few years. A lot of hype is pumped over to them for not much of a reason.

I personally think getting a 980 of any type is a bit of a waste. If you want one because they do better for your games then just get a ti and up the clock yourself.

I would get a 390. I'm also an amd user but it's cheaper and they have better performance. You can read a lot of threads on the forum asking between the two. Some even are waiting for the next NV GPU series and you having a 780 would definately carry you over till then.

But, I would do a 390. NV is just one giant dongversus AMD making things to push the industry.

Also freesync monitors don't cost as much as a 980 ti.

It's only worth it if you get a good price. EVGA doesn't have the right prices.

There's an MSI Gaming GTX 980 Ti on the TechPowerUp B/S/T forum for $500 shipped. If you can get $280 out of the GTX 780 on Craigslits or eBay than yeah, that $220 upgrade would be worth it. Otherwise it's not a cost effective upgrade.

I just upgraded from a 290 to an Asus Strix 980 ti and the improvement is insane! I usually play battlefield 4 at 5760x1080 so just a few more pixels than 1440p, but after upgrading I went from about 60 fps to 130 fps with the same settings. I am very impressed with it and I haven't had any complaints! Granted I've only been using it for a week or so.

The 980 ti is a great 1440p card. I actually run an Evga 980 ti FTW edition, and its been great. A bit of coil whine but I play with headphones so its not that big of a deal. Here is a good anandtech overview of the 980 ti in bf4 @ 1440p and 4k; http://www.anandtech.com/show/9306/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-ti-review/4

The 780 was netting 44.6fps and the 980 ti was at 77.7fps, but overclocking the 980 ti can really get you some extra performance that I'd bet would get your over 80fps if you get a good overclocking card.

I'd look at benchmarks for the games you play for both cards and make a decision from there. Given that you're going from a reasonably good card you'll be paying a lot for a less significant jump. I'm on a 780ti and I think it does just fine on 1440p with most current titles that I play.

I'd wait until the next GPU generation arrives.

The life cycle of the 980 ti is almost over. So I would recommend waiting until the new architecture comes out. The new GPU's should roll out some time early 2016.

Based on input I think waiting is my best option.

Every single benchmark I have seen with a 390x vs gtx 980(non Ti) shows the 980 beating the 390 at most resolutions, 99% of the time. Please link multiple benchmarks where the 390 has better performance than a 980.

Waiting for the next AMD or Nvidia GPUs is your best bet IMO

I would agree to wait.

I was going to suggest SLI but I looked at 780 prices and about peed myself.

Thats because a lot of games out there have the nvidia boner thrown in. I forget if it was one of the crysis games or something else, but an example was, I believe crysis 2, had millions of polygons in a roadblock and the nvidia drivers would remove them and have it normal while the AMD cards had that as a trap.
