GPU upgrade dilemma, guidance requested

Hey guys, I'm new here and I just wanna start off by saying Tek Syndicate is awesome.  You guys make fantastic YouTube content, and I really hope the channel stays around for a long time.

With that being said, I'm looking to enhance my graphical gaming experience.

My current hardware in the system is as follows:

CPU: i5-4670k clocked at 3.3 GHz (stock)

Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme4

RAM: 8GB Crucial DDR3-1600 Memory

GPU: MSi Twin Frozr R9 280X

SSD: Samsung 128GB 840 Pro

Monitor: Asus VN279 1080p 60Hz

I'm really torn on what my next graphics solution should be.  I'm definitely going to stay AMD, because I've always preferred them since back in the day before AMD bought ATI.

I'm thinking either get another 280X (the same exact one from MSi) and run them in CrossFire, OR replace my current card with the 290X (since they have dropped in price, as Logan has mentioned in one of Tek Syndicate's most recent videos) and then later on down on the road throw another 290X in there.

If you guys have a completely different solution in mind (strictly AMD), feel free to enlighten me.  Any guidance from this awesome community would be strongly considered.

Thanks in advance for any help guys.

There is no point in upgrading unless you plan on running a 3 monitor or 1440 p monitor setup. For just 1080p as of now there is no logical upgrade for your graphics card.

I beg to differ man, I'm running Battlefield 4 at 1080p and I'm only getting an average of like 45-50 FPS (rough estimation) on large maps on Ultra settings.  These results barely differ on medium to low settings.  I really want something that's gonna give me a much higher average framerate, and I already have a couple of buddies that are running dual GPU setups.  My friend is running dual XFX 7970s (which my GPU is a rebranded version of, I'm sure you already know) and he experienced at least a 75% performance increase.  I wanna stay at over 60FPS constantly in not only BF4, but all modern major titles.  I know that the components in my system can handle more GPU horsepower, without any bottleneck issues.

If there is no difference between medium and ultra settings then your GPU isn't the issue, you should try overclocking your cpu and see the results. I don't have much experience with BF4's engine but i think i've heard that it's relatively cpu intensive

you should overclock you cpu at least a little bit because your mobo support it preaty good, if that wont help get second 280x because that will be cheaper unless you can sell your 280x and get a 290x

Before adding a second card or upgrading, what is your PSU wattage? it sucks to have to basically rip your system apart to upgrade your PSU for your new/second GPU

You should wait for AMD's 390X card before making a move. The 290X and 970 GTX should be 50-100 dollars cheaper by then.

PS. Don't go crossfire unless you solely game BF4 or w/e that supports it. So many games since 2013 haven't supported SLI or more than 4 CPU cores.

This topic is allready more then a month old.

i suppose  topic starter allready has a new GPU. So i put a lock on this thread.

If he doesnt has a new gpu yet, and still wants advice, he can send me a PM, then i will re-open this thread.
