Does anyone on the forum know of a gpu that can give smoother playback on Blu ray or videos like Anime?
if your only using it for blu ray, get an R7 240, if your using it for more gaming stuff get a R9 285 or GTX 760
In my experience (2 different ATI/AMD gpu's and 3 different NVIDIA gpu's), AMD provides much better video playback than NVIDIA. I don't know why, but the picture always seems crisper and youtube videos have been noticeably smoother on AMD cards in the past. I do prefer NVIDIA for gaming though, I seem to have fewer driver headaches with new games than I did with AMD/ATI.
I have an old 2600k with a gtx560ti .. Playsback blue-rays perfectly... DMCA for blurays suck because you need to use HDMI for most cards
your 7870 and just about any nvidia or amd card made in the last 4 years should easily be able to handle blu-ray. that said no card I know has support for the H.265 or 10bit h.264 codecs yet. so you'll need to wait till next year if you want to play newer 4K blu-rays.
a nvidia gt 520 should get the job done if your looking for somthing cheap. AMD cards can only use DXVA but nvidia cards have the option of using CUVID which can be used by installing LAV codecs. you should already have them if your using media player classic or any of the popular codec packs out there.
still you'd have better luck upgrading your cpu to a fx-9590 then upgrading your gpu. from my experience hardware accelerated playback is very picky about what settings the video your trying to play was converted with.
then again you may not even need to upgrade anything alot of times changing settings in what ever player your using will solve the problem.
