GPU Squealing?

I have just bought the EVGA 650 Ti 1GB, and under load when folding, it gets a high pitched whining noise to it, however this does not happen over normal circumstances. I have a 620 watt PSU. It's running in a PCIe x16 1.0A slot, if that means anything. EDIT: This also happens in the WEI test, could it be from a high artificial framerate?

Sounds like coil whine. As far as I know there is no fix other than to RMA it.

Is it a big problem, will it harm anything? It doesn't happen when gaming, but it will definately prevent me from folding when I'm asleep.

It won't change anything about how the card works or life span it is just annoying. A RMA likely won't fix this however as folding@home is known to cause coil whine even on the best cards due to the incredible strain it puts on them.

Ah, alright. Thanks for the info.

that is why i gonna  have a pwm fan controlled off gpu temp, blowing right up at my gpu....

Just a moment... it's definitely coil whine, but I've got exactly the same card (EVGA GTX 650 Ti), and it coil whines like hell. I would say it's not worth returning, because it's probably going to happen to any GTX 650 Ti. It's horrible, the worst card I've ever owned as far as coil whine goes.

Yeah. I'm happy with performance, and after updating to the latest drivers instead of the on-disk ones it's a bit quieter, but still annoying as hell under 100% load.
