While reading through Should I get a gtx 1080 or Vega 64 I thought, shouldn’t we just make a flowchart/choose-your-own-adventure?
So, what follows is my WIP attempt to piece together a quiz that shows the relevant points that always show up in these sorts of threads:
-
What is your primary OS:
Windows -
Linux / BSD - see question 2
Hacintosh -
-
Linux / BSD users - Do you prefer using opensource drivers?

No
-
What do you plan on primarily using your card for:
Gaming
3D rendering

ML/AI (kittens/s workloads)

Don’t waste too much time with Window’s operating systems these days other than maintenance related matters for clients.

Linux / BSD users - Do you prefer using open source drivers?
No
Proprietary or Open Source.
Whichever is required for optimal functioning.

All of the above naturally.

Do you plan on buying a variable refresh (G-Sync / FreeSync) monitor?
No
Negative.
Current workstation’s monitor functions quite well as needed without having to transport an additional monitor when needing to be mobile.
