GPU selection quiz - first wiki attempt

While reading through Should I get a gtx 1080 or Vega 64 I thought, shouldn’t we just make a flowchart/choose-your-own-adventure?

So, what follows is my WIP attempt to piece together a quiz that shows the relevant points that always show up in these sorts of threads:

  1. What is your primary OS:
    Windows -
    Linux / BSD - see question 2
    Hacintosh -

  2. Linux / BSD users - Do you prefer using opensource drivers?
Yes - Open source drivers for AMD cards (RadeonSI and the officially-supported AMDGPU) are much better than those for Nvidia cards (Nouveau)
    No

  3. What do you plan on primarily using your card for:
    Gaming
    3D rendering
    Video editing
    ML/AI (kittens/s workloads)

  4. Do you plan on buying a variable refresh (G-Sync / FreeSync) monitor?
    Yes
    No

So, what follows is my WIP attempt to piece together a quiz that shows the relevant points that always show up in these sorts of threads:

  1. What is your primary OS:
    UnixLinux
Don’t waste too much time with Window’s operating systems these days other than maintenance related matters for clients.

  2. Linux / BSD users - Do you prefer using open source drivers?
    No
    Proprietary or Open Source.
Whichever is required for optimal functioning.

  3. What do you plan on primarily using your card for:
    Gaming
    3D rendering
    Video editing
    ML/AI (kittens/s workloads)
    All of the above naturally.

  4. Do you plan on buying a variable refresh (G-Sync / FreeSync) monitor?
    No
    Negative.
Current workstation’s monitor functions quite well as needed without having to transport an additional monitor when needing to be mobile.
